Well I also have a Nissan versa. And on the Versa forum a guy posted the video you see below. I went and checked my Versa and it doesn't make the noise. But later I went to start my 2011 rogue and sure enough I heard this exact noise. Does this happen to anyone else? Basically when you turn the car to on, but don't start it you can hear a buzz followed by a quick clicking sound. This video is really enhancing the sound. It is barely noticeable if parked outside, more so if in a garage.

any reason I can't add the vid right to the post?

Starter solenoid I think. Probably shouldn't be making that much noise though.

that video like I said is over exaggerated. 9 out of 10 people wouldn't even notice the noise on my rogue. It is very quiet but definitely the same noise.

Now this noise happens when just turning the key to on, not when cranking. Like when you are just turning the key to listen to the radio or something but not start the car. Could it still be the starter? Hopefully this weekend I will be able to bust out the stethoscope and pinpoint where it is coming from.

The starter solenoid, not the starter itself. The solenoid moved the gear in the starter forward so it engages the flywheel, then when the key goes back to it's rest. It can happen when you put the key in the on position instead of the accessory position.

thanks! I still haven't checked this out. Hopefully today. The rogue is the GF's daily not mine and we work opposite schedules so I hardly ever get a chance to see it. She has owned it for 3 weeks and I have only been in it twice. The first time was the test drive :D.

its not the starter solenoid, because the ignition isnt turned far enough for it to engage. its in the accessory/radio - not START

something is self-testing .... very weird. i'd go to the dealer
