I searched like crazy for my issue, found several things close to my problem, but no solutions. So here is my issue:I bought my 1990 240SX Fastback today, under the knowledge that there was a knocking noise in the bottom end at 2500 rpm. It almost completely subsides at 3200 rpm. He thinks that he spun a rod bearing. I think that its just a Metric F*** Ton of gunk, because when I was checking/adding oil, it was black. i added a quart to see if it helped. I think that once i drain the oil and flush the hell out of it... It should be good... but in case, I may replace the rod bearings. What else could it possibly be?

On another note, I had my car, driving it home, and it died while driving...twice. It just clunked and died on the highway. So the Roadside Assistance from the DOT came and jumped my battery... got me rolling... then, two miles later...dead again... so i think the alternator is toast. Any other ideas as to the culprit sucking battery's life out?

I'll be posting in the Pignose squad thread tomorrow...

well i think you may have anwsered you own questions. got to be a bad alternator. the motor bushings have prob gone out on it. as for the engine id check out the the bearings and get those replaced.

im guessing your car is an automatic since you needed dot to help..

pop start it if it a 5 speed.... and It sounds like a bad alternator!

replace the alternator and problem should be solved. if not it might be your distributor.

why distributor?

when a bad distributor gets hot [ overheating car ] the car will shut off and only turn back on when its cool [ 20 mins later ]

check that too.. if car dies then doesnt turn on for 20 mins its the dizzy..

good luck.

Well, I did notice on the second time before it died, the temp gauge did spike as if it were overheating... so when I can afford it, she gets a complete tune-up. (dizzy, wires, sparkplugs, etc.) Thats gonna set me back about $150... hopefuly that noise at 2500 rpm is ONLY engine sludge..

So, as it currently looks, its my starter now... jumped the battery and got clicking noises. Wednesday, she goes up on a lift. checking all connections. Hopefully, i'll drive her outta there that night. Imma make a build thread and finally post in the pignose squad thread. i'll link to the build thread in a moment...
