clicking coming from engine

i can hear this clicking noise, its not loud but its persistant and sounds in sync with the cars idle.

i asked my mechanic about it, and he offered two suggestions. one is that one or more of the vavle springs (?? not sure if thats exactly what he said, but something to do with the valves) could be bent......or that there is pressure built up from my indented oil pan (im sure some of you guys have seen how these things come imported all stacked on eachother), so he said if i undent the oil pan it may release a little bit of pressure and stop the clicking.

the first one sounds more serious, but also more realistic.

any suggestions, help or info will be much appreciated.

p.s. my suspension and rims are going on tonight, ill post pics (its not yet painted though)

doubt it is the oil pan...especially undenting it to "release pressure" The oil pan would have to be dented in pretty far to obstruct the pickup enough to prevent oil flow. I'm talking like 3.5"-4" here.

I'm betting it's your hydraulic lifters if it is coming from your head. How long have you run the motor for? Search through my "created threads" and I have a couple of videos linked up of how my motor sounded before I took it all apart again. Or search putfile.com for RB25DET and you'll find it. EDIT: here it is...zerothread?id=179220Turns out a few of my lifters were reinstalled backwards because I'm a moron.

Otherwise it could be an exhaust leak from your manifold since the exhaust manifold studs have been notorious for breaking on RB's. That makes a kind of ticking sound as well.

I suggest you use another mechanic...The RB is very similar feature wise to other Nissan motors. You should go to one know specializes in them.
