1993 240sx Hatch

Recently everytime i push in the clutch i hear this annoying click noise. This noise even comes up when i try pushing in the clutch slowly in. Therefore, it clicks when i first push the clutch in and when i release the clutch. There doesn;t seem to be any problems with driving the car, just that the sound gets annoying.

I did a search and most of the topics recommended spraying the spring and some other areas of the pedal with WD-40. I tried it and nothing imroved.......

it may be that the return spring is moving, look down there and push it in and out, see if you see anything moving that shouldnt be

I've got the same problem on my '95. I can see that coiled spring move as the clutch moves, and spraying WD-40 didn't do a bit of help for me either.

You do understand that theres a switch behind the clutch pedal, and that might be the clicking...

Yeah, I know about the switch. What's that for anyway? The sound coming from mine is like a squeeking and clicking throughout the entire time its moving in or out.

The switch is there so you don't accidentally start the car in gear.

Have you noticed that you have to push in the clutch in order to start the car? Thats what the switch does.

The fork that comes out of the master cylinder and connects to the clutch petal with a lock thing and a cotter pin to keep it in place. There might be too much free play or it could be the spring moving and taping something. Just a thought.

Oh, no wonder I didn't know what the switch was for, mine's been disabled. Why you ask? Remote start, it's a beautiful thing. Luckily this was my first manual car so I didn't have to break any habits of parking the car in gear.

Okay, I've found that its the return spring (the coiled one) that is sticking to itself, and when it breaks free it pops. I've WD-40'd and greased the hell out of it and it's still doing the same thing. Does anyone else have an idea to stop the sticking that doesn't involve replacing the spring? I'm fresh out of ideas and I can't tell exactly what replacing the spring would require, but from what it looks like, I'd have to twist the spring so it can set on hook on the pedal arm to pull the arm forward. The clutch pedal is hard enough to push in by hand while I'm down there (akward position too) and I can't even imagine twisting just the spring by hand to get it in place. Ideas?

I have a 95 and get the same thing sometimes. Horribly annoying.

I suggest you inspect the passage the throttle cable takes through the firewall. I dont remember the specifics but I remember concluding that it was coming from there.

Haven't had the time to thoroughly inspect the clutch pedal, but i have noticed that the clicking sound is almost non existent on a cold start. Later on the clicking sound gets louder.

I greased the crap out of it on saturday, and today was the first day I didn't hear the sound come from the spring. I don't know why, maybe it had to work its way down in between the coils.
