Clicking, clunking, poping noise coming from right rear of my 2007 Sentra 2.0

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have been hearing a clicking, clunking, popping noise from the right rear of my 2007 Sentra 2.0 whenever I accelerate after coming to a complete stop after going about 35 mph. The noise only lasts about a second but it is pretty predicable. It sounds like its coming from the right rear drum brake so I took the drum off, but everything look fine and the springs look fine. It's not the ABS because I disconnected the ABS fuse and it still does it. I don't think it is the suspension because I don't hear the noise over bumps. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

No other vibrations or anything? Other than a loose bolt on the suspension or a bad strut/mount, I can't think of anything else.

Should still be under warranty. Make Nissan fix it.

It sounds as though you have confirmed that you only hear the noise under that specific condition- when starting off after a full stop from fairly low speed.

For example, it doesn't happen when starting off from rest after heavy braking from, say, 50 mph?

I can see why you suspect that the brake shoe assembly is getting out of alignment and only gets corrected by heavier brake application.

Might be worth doing a few panic stops, on a clear road, just to see if that can be a fix.Can be good practice for some braking systems anyway to clean off the friction surfaces, etc.

It does tend to rule out any problem with the tire, wheel bearing or suspension, as that noise would likely be more continuous.

Instead of pulling the brake drum, what about just rotating that rear wheel by hand to listen for the noise and feel for dragging?- assuming you do a stop from about 35 mph immediately prior to jacking up that corner for the test. If you can hear anything, it might need a dowel rod to your ear as a stethoscope to isolate where exactly it is coming from.

Thank you all for your help.

It turns out it was the famous front right engine mount (insulator) problem. The seal broke and was leaking fluid.

I guess the direction of the noise could be deceiving. My passengers kept telling me the noise came from the right rear, and it did sounded like it came from the right rear from my driver's position.

It's quiet and smooth now after replacing it.

Here is the picture of the busted motor mount:

I am having the exact same problem. Approximately how much would it cost to repair?
