I have a 97 Infiniti QX4 and everytime I turn the ignition key the cassette player begins clicking loudly like it is trying to eject a cassette that is not there. The clicking goes on 15 or 20 times before it stops. I would like to either fix it or disable the cassette player all together since I only use the radio and CD. Can anyone help with a solution?

Can anyone tell me why my post about a clicking cassette player gets no replies and when "Where do you live" gets 53 in one day. If anyone has an answer to my question please respond. If it is such a common question that no one wants to answer it again than I appoligize? I would just like to know if my question is being seen and if there is no fix than I will move on. Thanks

Why don't you bump your thread instead of making another one with a nonsensical title. BTW the reason why there are so many posts in that thread is because everyone can answer the question.

EDIT: I just looked and your thread was created yesterday, be patient dude.

Well bumping the thread I'm sure is a good suggestion, I was not aware of that but will do that next time. I am new to forums and am just trying to get an answer to my question. I'm guessing you didn't have the answer or you would have left it.

Are you sure there are no remnants of a tape that may have been eaten inside the cassette player? Is there a significant amount of dust inside the cassette player? Look with a flashlight.

What Empty V said. Also, the "where are you from" thread is 128 days old, not 1 day old.

You can't (easily) disable just the cassette player, like removing a fuse, since every component in the head unit shares one power supply. (Edit: Technically, there's a couple power supplies, but I don't think you can easily disable the cassette player without also disabling the CD player or clock.)

What happens if you put a tape in, then turn the key? Does it still try and spit it out?

I was just thinking that your unit is 13 years old (I presume it's the original stock unit), so no big surprise that it's starting to fail.
The cassette player is 90% mechanical, so I'm not surprised it's broken.
Just for comparison, my CD player started acting up in year 3 (it's an 2002 Pathfinder), and quit altogether in year 4.
I haven't replaced it because I never play CD's (I use an Ipod adapter), and the radio and audio still work fine.
Maybe you can find a replacement unit from a junker, or just upgrade the whole head unit?
