Click noise from steering wheel on J

So i got my turn signal module fixed on my J and for a while everything was fine. however i am at my moments end with this clicking noise. every time I'm just driving I hear fast clicking that sounds like my turn signal but im not even using it. Eventually smoke comes from the steering wheel. Anyone have an idea what it could be? help greatly appreciated thanks.

Clicking noises? Smoke? Sounds like an arcing/shorting/loose wire connection. Everything electrical is working and no warning lights are ON? Maybe a fuse will blow soon.

Go back to your mechanic who "Repaired" the problem and see what he says. Or see another mechanic and force the old mechanic to pay for the bill.

HVAC controls gone bad. My j30 does the same thing. click click click real fast and smoke from steering wheel. this happens on my old 93 that im parting all the time. I swapped the hVAC out for a newer one problem solved.

The HVAC controls the flashers too (big red button)

Hmm the mechanic replaced my flasher module which was about 60 dollars. Before my turn signals didnt even work and now they do. I could just be driving and it starts clicking out of nowhere. What is the HVAC?.

The unit just above the radio .The AC controls.

It's going to seem to work fine until disaster strikes... and it will. I suggest you at least disconnect it to see if that is the problem.
