Hi - I am signing for my new 2008 Versa Monday night. I just need to pick the color .
I am interested in the White or Black. Yet I was wondering if Nissan puts a clearcoat over these colors ? The sales rep didn't return my call last evening .. and unfortunately everything is closed today.
Many thanks if anyone is able to help me .. and back to reading the posts I go

I cannot say for sure, but my 2004 super-black Frontier did not have a clearcoat finish. There is an easy way to tell; look for alabel on the underside of the hood that reads something along the lines of "hard clear-coat finish, use approved refinish materials only" if it does not have that label, my guess is that it does not have clearcoat.

A lot of times the dealership will put an additional clear coat on it that's supposed to help prevent chips and dulling in the paint. They also like to put pin striping on the car and then charge you for it.

That is what I understood too .. $150 for metallic. However, I am still curious as to whether they do a clearcoat on the black & white cars. I am not sure how this will influence my decision, but I am most certainly NOT interested in the blue or red. And I am now on my 2nd silver car LOL .. so black or white is where I am heading.
I have researched the clearcoat online to no avail. And nothing is mentionned in the brochure.

Well ... it's done
Friday at 6h30 p.m. I go over to the dealer - sell my Ford Focus (2000) to my buyer and will be driving home in my 2008 Nissan Versa SL .. "Arctic White". I had them install the Bluetooth for me seeing as in Quebec it is now mandatory.
I am really excited ! Altho my Focus cost me a LOT in repairs since I bought it used in 2004 (over $5,000 in repairs) I still liked the comfy feeling inside the car.

My 07 Red Alert Versa was clearcoat. No red came off when applying and buffing polish or wax. The paint process would not be different for one color. Either they are all basecoat/clearcoat or none are.
