I bought a 2011 rogue at the beginning of june. I have since had around 30 or so quarter sized spots where the clear coat has come off. I took it back to the dealer and they tell me it is bird droppings or tree sap and not covered by the warranty. I am cluesless how it can be either because I have seen neither on the car and wash it at least once a week. Im baffled as to how none of my other cars have ever had this happen, much less on a car that I have owned a total of two months. Am I the only person this has happened to? It seems like I'm stuck footing the bill for this when it dossn't feel like I should be.

Trust me it's only the beginning. The paint on the Rogue is not that durable. Just wait until the rocks chip away at it. Get use to it. I believe the last reason I was told is that paint is cheaper in quality or water based or something to that effect.

Unlike back in the day like 20 years ago, the vehicle's paint is more durable.

No, you are not alone. I have my Rogue since May. I hand wash my car every week, and wax once a month. I found 5 paint chips so far. Compared with Hyundai we bought 3 weeks later, the paint quality on Rogue is much worse.

Maybe you should take it to Zeibart or somewhere else, specialized in paint protection before it is too late. Maybe they can give a warranty? I bought my car on February and had Tricare paint protection (including tree saps, bird droppings, etc.). I am so happy about the appearance. But you are right, I have millions of tiny scratches on the clear coat which you can see at certain light conditions.

I strongly disagree. Even though modern water-based paints (all manufacturers use this type) are a little less durable than the old solvent based toxic stuff, it's still pretty good and there is absolutely no way you should put up with the clear coat peeling off of your new car. I have an 08 Rogue that gets driven through harsh salty winters, the front end gets sand and rock blasted and I've only got a few chips, the paint has been at least average anyway.

Clearcoat peeling on a new vehicle is a MAJOR issue that should not be ignored by your or dealer. That paint is designed to last the life of vehicle, and any peeling indicates a problem from the factory. If the clear has truly peeled off in 30 spots, I am shocked that the dealer would try to blame this on bird droppings or tree sap. There is no way that bird or tree sap can peel your paint unless maybe you left it there and baked it in the sun for a few years.

I'd strongly recommend taking your new car back to the dealer and insist that they fix the problem, and if they aren't willing just calmly mention that you will be contacting Nissan Corporate directly to file a complaint. Often just mentioning your intention to complain to Nissan Corporate is all it takes to bring about a change of heart and get the problem fixed. And if not, just give Nissan a call and they'll likely put pressure on the dealer to fix the problem.

Nissan dealership should definitely take care of this problem. Different Nissan dealership behave differently, even if they are all Nissan brand. Mine is decent. But yours didn't seem that helpful. Whatever the case is, this clear coat problem is totally unacceptable, specially at this stage. As kerrton said, just go to Nissan directly, if dealership doesn't take care of it.

Good luck buddy.
