ok I suggested a clear bra to the wife....so much for that idea.anyway...Im giving it some hard thought for the coupe. Has anyone bought one of them on Ebay? The prices seem quite reasonable. How about difficulty of installation? I saw some post somewhere about them yellowing over time....months?....years??? and horror or horrors...if you remove it a year or more later it may take the paint with it!!!!!! Off topic a bit....but when in the h*** is someone going to make a decent grill for this thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!The first good looking one that comes out will sell hundreds of them a month!

A clear bra is a good thing if you drive on the freeway/highway a lot that may cause rock chips to your bumper's paint. However, I wouldn't recommend buying one from eBay because its installation is not the easiest thing in the world. If there are bubbles or ara not cut or fitted right, it would pretty much be scrapped. Plus with eBay, quality is usually low.

Yellowing is inevitable but it could take years, I think it depends mostly on how much the sun hits it and the moisture in your area.

The paint problem, a good clear bra shouldn't take the paint off becuase it would pretty much render it useless. If that were the case, then why not get it repainted years later instead of wasting money on it now. It's another reason to go to a professional and have them install it. Some of them offer a warranty as well, like some tint shops.

Hope that answered your questions and was of some help.

tnx. I havent been able to locate anyone as yet doing clear bra installs. The prices Ive seen mentioned here were $600 to as much as $1000. The ones on Ebay claim to be 3M and were $185 I think

If your paying $600-$1,000, then I definitely would not recommend installing it yourself. While $185 seems too good to be true.

I know it can be hard to find an installer in your area but go to your nearest tint shop, they might know some shops that could do it. If anything, but the bra itself and ask if the tint shop can do it. Installing it is almost like installing tint so they should have the right tools for the job.

Good luck.

i heard this product called x-pel is supposed to be really good. Infact, i called a dealer in Allentown and he quoted me a price of $1200 installed! Yeah,..I think I'll just try to keep my distance from the car ahead of me whilst on the highway.

I posted a thread on Clear Bras - but since many folks don't do a search before starting a new thread I will repost pics here.

I did not buy the bra on ebay and I'm sure it was professionally installed - maybe you can talk your way into watching a professional do it - to see how hard it would be to do yourself. I say if you can afford have it professionally installed if you don't have the skills.

My car has a Star Shield Armor Clear Bra package that protects entire front end including headlights, covers 95% of hood, and about 30% of the front fender.

I'm not sure how long the sheild has been on the car - my car is a 2003 and I cannot be certain that the bra has been on the whole time - but based on how the first owner took care of the car I wouldn't be surprised.

There is no noticeable discoloration that I can tell. It is starting to peel ever so slightly on a couple of edges but they are minor and nowhere easily noticed. My car has almost the entire hood covered. If you are considering one - you should at least get the bumper, headlights and mirrors. Especiially if they can protect the mirror turn signals.

Good Luck

What's a Camary?

Actually that is your Mom's Camry - she kept complaining about getting rock chips on her way to see me - so I got her a clear bra - its the least I could do since she bought me my G35.

Hey i have a question... im considering this bra now seriously because a tree branch or someones pocket put a big scratch in my hood that i had to have buffed out... Where does it begin on the underside, like at the bottom of the bumper? I drive all highway essentially, this should be a "no brainer" investment, right?Thx

It doesn't really cover the underside. More like the front face or leading edge of the bottom of the bumper.

I'm not sure I would call it a "no-brainer" investment - only because it is not cheap. But yes for a new car, one which you want to keep new - I think it is a mod worth considering.

DangerisYou're a whole month late on that one - I said that back in September -before your mom traded in her Camry for the Acura.

Longbeach - I don't know what to tell you about the lines - you barely notice them. I took close ups to show folks the application - but most people don't notice the bra until I point it out to them.

Good Luck
