So I have an apointment to get a clear bra put on my G on Friday. I'm getting the entire bumper, 12inches on the hood, fender corners and rear view mirrors done.

Does anyone have positive/negative comments about the clear bra??? About how much did everyone pay??

I have it on my G. I like it. I have to drive very long distances almost daily, and I am constantly behind log trucks, dump trucks and traffic on less than stellar roads. I've only had it for a lil over a month, but I like where they put it, especialy in the door handle area and trunk area. I got sandwhiched in between a sanding truck the other day (yes, a sanding truck, it was snowing and there was about 5" of snow at sea level) and a log truck behind me, I thought for sure I would have a scratch or two. But when I cleaned her up, none. I think I paid a couple hundred bucks? You can hardly see it, most people haven't noticed it until I pointed it out.

Can you please explain to me (ignorant of the clear bra) what this is and what kind of place you go to to get one?

here ya go... it's a wise investment

It protects your paint from chipping and is barely noticeable.

Thanks for the link..

One question on this though... If it's on your car for a long time, and you wash and wax your car, will the paint under it be a different color when you take it off?

Back in the day (don't laugh), I had one of those black bras on a car. I didn't take it off regularly like I should have (young and uneducated), but you could definitely tell where it was after it did come off.

I installed the clear bra on my car myself (which was a bit of a task, not totally recommended unless you're pretty handy with this type of stuff)

I'm totally happy with mine as we get a lot of rock chips here in the desert. If you buy the 3M clearbra, then I've heard that you shouldn't have any issues with paint fade. I had a leather bra on my 4WS prelude back in the day and it faded the paint too. I think the clear bras are much less likely to fade unless they are a poor product. That's why I recommend 3M. You won't regret the clearbra. The dealer offered it to me for $700+ OUCH! I installed myself for about $200 so it was worth it to me.

Show us pics when you get it done Ray!

Good luck!Dave

U know, I wish some of the girls i know would wear a clear bra...

but as far as cars go, i was thinking about putting one on myself, because not too long after i got my car a rock hit my front fender, but the damage wasn't even that bad... I actually had to use a magnifying glass to find it...

I'm sure if i had the bra, i wouldn't have to worry about that sort of damage...

700 bucks? wow. that is a lot. I don't know for sure, but I don't think you ever take it off? Mine came with some solution that you apply once in a while, and it said it's supposed to keep it on and working as long as it is done as scheduled. Got mine done at the dealership, they did the whole front, lights, mirrors, inside door handles, on top of the rear bumper (the trunk loading area) and the door edges. The door pieces were so nice today, went to lunch in the G with a co-worker and he opened the door and BLAP! right into the car parked next to me, and the driver was in it! Luckily no damage to either car...phew

I will have to check with my dealer and see how much they charge.

My daughter opened the door on one of those square barricades at the gas station this morning...

I will let you guys know how it comes out.

The dealer wanted $900 for the clear bra and 35% tint all around. The clear bra is going to be $360 and I have not priced out tint yet but I don't think it will be over $250.

I went to the body shop this morning to price getting all the dings and chips out of my bumper so that I could purchase the clear bra.

$480 for that and then he said he had someone that could install the clear bra at a good rate, if I wanted to order it.

I saw there were two kinds on that 3M site. Are there any preferences on which one to get?

Thanks!

Ray, I would NEVER pay the $900 for the dealer price! You can buy the EXACT same 3M clearbra on Ebay from the distributor that I bought mine from for around $200 or less! You can have your local window tinter install it or recommend someone who does these installs. My guy said he'd do it for around $150, but I was brave enough to try it on my own...

Remember this is the EXACT same clear bra that your dealer is buying... for $900 you can buy the machine and computer software it takes to cut the film along with enough material to start your own clear bra business! Give this a thought first. heres the ebay store for the distributor that I bought from... great ebayer! http://search.stores.ebay.com/...ofpZ0

I can't remember what year G35 you have, but this is definately more cost effective than the dealer.

When my G arrived at the dealer and before they called me to say "come get it", I had arrainged to have tint and the bra installed. Can't remember exactly what I paid, but yes it was "several hundred"... thinking 5 to 7? And that was the "special birthday price" they gave me.

But, it's nice to have it installed straight away on a virgin front end. Mine still looks brand new to this day 7500 miles later. Even though I paid more, I still think it was well worth the $$$.

I'm not having the dealer install it . I thought $900 was way too much.

My cousin works at the body shop at the local Audi/Porsche dealership so he hooked me up with the installer their dealership uses. Hes the guy who is charging me $360. He also gave me their tint guys number. Called him today and he quoted me $220 for tint. So $580 instead of $900. Saved myself $320, thats like, what, 3 tanks of gas
