I was wondering if gasoline mixed with fuel injector cleaner (techron, etc) could be used as an effective cleaner for the throttle body, i heard this somewhere and since gasoline is a very good degreaser, it seems dangerously plausible, i went to pepboys, no throttle body cleaner for sale, there was carb cleaner though, but i hear too that that stuff is way too strong.

I've been using carb cleaner "safe for O2 sensors" as a throttle body cleaner with a used long handled tooth brush for 13 years on my QX4, always just before an oil change. The spray can makes the job easier. Place a rag under the opening to act as a bib, clean inside and outside springs mechanism.

Within a day then change the oil.

Result:
No carbon to stick the throttle plate

Around 250,000 Km on QX4

O okay, but im wondering if gasoline would work too, im about to rebuild my front cv axle and would like to be able to clean off the old grease with gasoline then spray it all off with my brake cleaner.

I would not use gasoline, too messy too volatile and it is the properties of today's gas that you want to remove. Bad for your lungs. CV, wipe down with rags or paper towel then remove, then clean using solvent like cheaper varsol, then clean off with brake cleaner, examine joints for wear, shattered parts, upon re-assembly pack with a good grade grease at recommended amounts, be sure to do a partial fill of the boots on assembly, assemble everything in order and tie the boots at the end and be sure you use OEM boots and no other. Otherwise you will be doing it again. The boots need to be flexed over the total distance, be sure to tie down at the proper place then measure the length and verify with the manual.
