Is there anything special to use on the mats. I was told to steer clear of the spray on carpet cleaners as used in the home because they could lead to mold over time.

Carpet cleaner is what I used, but the air is pretty dry here.

You might want to check out a car wash......were I live we have one that has a machine that......that you feed the mats into and they come out clean, however I do let them set out in the SUN to make sure they are dry, an dthen I sweep them with a broom to fluff them up.

Carpet cleaner, Simple Green, a hand-held scrub brush and the pressure washer at the car wash.... Don't be gentle.

Hang them up at the car wash and blast away (top to bottom, one 3" strip at a time).

Here's what I do. Vacuum the mats to get most of the dirt and particles out of there.

I then mix some Oxy-clean into a regular spray bottle. I then spray the oxy-clean onto the mats and SCRUB with a clean towel to get any stains out.

Let the mat dry in the sun and re-vacuum to get the mats looking nice again.

My mats look like new.

Once the mats get wet, they'll never be the same.... I give my driver's side mat a bath with laundry detergent and a big brush.

I just saw an ad for Oxyclean today. I am going to give it a try. Also the pressure car wash deal.

Thanks all

I used it when my carpets were dinjy as hell, and it too every bit of it out. Just make sure you have a few dry terry cloths handy. Spray with the diluted Oxy Clean....then rub it out.
