The valve cover and the head? Yes there is a gasket if so and its a valve cover / rocker cover gasket. Its a 2 peice deal and simple to put on. Over time and with heat they turn from soft rubber to plastic, and when this happens they dont seal and tend to crack, causeing leaks.

All you need is a 10mm and pliers for the hose clamp and some rtv. Take out the plug wires, and remove the breather tube. Remove all the 10mm bolts (can leave the wire holder ones in) including the center ones. Take the cover off and remove the gasket. Clean the rtv off in the half circles on the front and back of the head. I apply some oil to the gasket (stick your finger in a pool in the head or use new oil), and rub it all over then place it into the valve cover. Apply rtv to the half circles (like you just cleaned) on the new gasket making sure to get some in the corners Place back on the head making sure the lobes of half circles are sitting in there right.

Then tighten it down, with light to moderate torque, you could torque them to spec but I dont. But being your first time you may wat to do that hehe.

reattach the wires and tube and its good. Start it up and check for leaks to double check.

Um and dont get anything in the exposed head :)

Oh and if this isnt it please be more specific.

if it is the valve cover like said above watch how much u torque the bolts down dont muscle them on. did it to one of the center ones and broke 2 extractors trying to get it out.

Thats not so bad.... At least you wherent torqueing down your first cam journal bolt to initial specs and missed the minuscule click of the rented torque wrench, then forgot it was only a 10 - 15 lb spec, kept tightening untill you heard a big click :)

After much hassle I had to drill and retap the hole.... Its got 5 or 6 full threads and held the torque spec, and has held up for 30k or so now :)

Needless to say the cam job that was going super quick was set back a few hours AND evey other bolt after that went in with 100% concentration and ease :) It was my first time in my engine..... Gotta learn sometime I guess hehe.

rtv = room tempature vulcanizing, or simply put the red silicone you buy at an auto parts store.

You can get the gasket at nissan of course, but Im guessing with the tech price being 18$ the avg joes cost would be about 36$. You could also get them from autozone discount or pep boys (before my gf had a 240 she had a probe and I got that one there)... It will be cheaper at these places and is generally a direct fit.

Breather tube... If you look at the valve cover, see that tube to the front left? There ya go.

Half circle, once again look at the front of the engine where the head meets the cover. Youll see the rubber half circles where they meet. This is from the gasket, and these circles in the head allow you to get to the cam sprocket bolts.... If you have a sohc though, um its about the same with minor differences. Like there should be only one gasket and it may or may not have the lobes.... Havent seen a sohc in a long time hehe.

Depending on what you have the torque will vary. By the way the torque is how tight you tighten the bolt. there are wrenches to give you an exact "tightnes", I never use them on my VC though, I just dont tighten it down alot.
