What do you recommended I use to clean the engine and the bay, what product should I use?

Castrol Super Clean degreaser. Works wonders.

Simple Green is good too.

There is some cheap orange cleaner that I have heard a lot of people talk about using, I've seen pictures and it looks like it works, too. Can't remember exactly which one it is, but its one of those multi-surface cleaners. Search and you can probably find the threads its mentioned in.

Engine Brite, works pretty good and helps to kill those unnecessary brain cells when you breathe it in.

Whatever you buy make sure it's concentrate and not pre-diluted. Go buy some paint brushes in different sizes and stiffness. That usually helps get a good clean in the hard to reach spaces. Oh yeah get some good tire shine, too, that will help bring the rubber/plastic pieces back to life. That's all I can think of for now.

They make a wicked new Gunk Engine Brite that is a Gel, so it sticks instead of running off.

I use whatever degreaser is cheap at autozone. I've heard of simple green staining aluminum but never used it out of fear. painting the valve cover really cleans up the engine bay cause it covers up all the oil stains, plus dirt and oil will just wipe off of the painted surface.

It will, as most of the heavy degreasers will, take the coating off of anodized pieces, and bleach cast aluminum white.

What all should I cover up when I clean my bay? The distributor cap. Anything else? I don't want to kill my baby

Thanks

I'm gonna go do it this week then. I just don't want to be stranded at the car wash for hours lol.

I'll cover the electical stuff with some shopping bags. Will that work good enough? I might just do it with the hose but is that powerful enough?

When I was detailing we used to pressure wash engines with enough pressure to take the skin off your finger at point blank range (don't ask how I know that.) Every now and then you would have a coil-on-plug car that would be slow to start but just blow them dry with an air gun and it fired right up. Anyways my point is you should be fine with a garden hose, you'll just need to agitate the degreaser a little more.
