I will be replacing my f/p on my 1991 Q, and I recall in an earlier post Dennis mentioned the fuel tank should be cleaned before putting in a new f/p.

How do you clean out a fuel tank?

Remove the tank, send thew low amount of gasoline to some hazardous waste dump, soap and water rags, and soap and water rags, then lots of clean water rags, then air pressure dry.

Steam cleaning might also be a good alternative for a final clean.

Drying is crucial.
