My 90 240SX has clogged Exhaust Gas Chambers and Inlet Ports according to the dealer, but he is asking $400 for the repair.

Can I do this myself? I just bought the Chilton manual and it isn't very helpful. I will be buying the Factory Manual but my dealer doesn't have it in stock.

Anyway, someone in the 240sx club (http://www.240sx.org/) posted the following instructions, but it isn't clear enough for me.

-----------------Start --------------Check the intake manifold exhaust gas chambers and inlet ports for clogging. Remove the intake air plenum and then the brass plugs and make sure the inlet ports are unobstructed by cleaning them with a coat hanger wire. Boy was I surprised how much exhaust debris and clogging I found in mine.---------------- End ----------------------------

What is the intake air plenum? Can anyone explain the process further?

ThanksTJ

Pretty sure they're talking about the intake manifold. On the opposite side of the engine from the exhaust. Never removed it myself, but if you do make sure you hook everything back up or you might have a vacuum leak or worse.
