My engine and engine bay need a bath. In the past I have just used a pressure wand at a self-serve car wash.

What do those of you who are more careful about it do!?

ThanksKen K

If you get water on top of the engine V, I think you will want to have compressed air to blow as much as possible out of the deep wells therein.

Chances are those deep wells are full of dirt and grit suspended in grease and oil. My engine looked like the Alberta tar sands.

So..........

seran wrap, degreaser (i prefer pooboy's bio-apc), detail brush, low pressure water, compressed air, towels, and 303 aerospace protectant.

in that order.

Man the only time i wish I lived in Houston, so I could go over to your house and talk you into making my engine look like that! I was just about to say that mine is really clean, but now I'd say it is clean.

I try to clean off the top every car wash. Of course the car wash doesn't do it but I take a towel and wife down all the pastic stuff, the batter (it is the car washes towel so I don't care about the battery stuff).

that is very nice!

actually now that i think about it i don't think i used saran wrap on the q. it's normal application i covering electronics that could possibly be flooded with water. only thing that qualified was the fuse box (other than the valley which you can't do much about) and i don't think i even did that. really its just a precaution.

I do, too. Or, rather, used to. About a year ago, signs started popping up in carwashes here warning that disposing of chemicals in the sewer is illegal and washing underhood in carwashes is prohibited. Nevermind the fact that automatic washes would be spraying the same chemicals from the bottom of the car.

Most ridiculous law ever. I guess we just STOP keeping out cars clean, then?

Degreaser, warm high pressure water, air compressor (to dry out hard to reach crevasses), and silicone spray applied to a soft cloth and buffed onto plastic surfaces.

I never had an airbox on my car, as it came with a K&N pod when i bought it. Now I have a Blitz (in pics) installed.

There is another one from the underside of the filter, going down to the nearest bolt hole, so there are actually 2 brackest holding the filter in place.

Light commercial grade steam cleaner with mild solution on non electrical components works GREAT!
