cleaning engine and need to know some stuff

im completly taking apart this engine and need to know if i can clean the breather seperator ( some oil thing) im not sure what it actually does but i need to know if i can clean it with simple green?

why do you have a breather? did you bypass the loop between the valve cover and the intake manifold?

not the same breather im talking about a oil breather on the middle of the passanger side of the block
