I know, probably a noobish question, but I can’t get a real clear cut answer. Just wanted to know if I can clean the IACV and Throttle body and not have to do the whole “re-learn” idle BS.

Is it avoidable?

Can I just disconnect the negative cable from battery, clean throttle body , including opening up the butterfly valve and be ok?

Any info will be much appreciated.

It would help to know the year and model of your vehicle.

Lol my fault, it’s a 2003 pathfinder.

Yours is the drive-by-wire TB. My experience is with the older cable operated TB.

Damn, so most likely I would have to do the idle relearn.
What about the IACV? I beleive I should be able to just unplug the battery, clean it, then plug battery back in without having to do any other procedures right?

I've read somewhere on here that you should NEVER touch the butterfly valve. I don't know the reason why though.. Maybe someone that knows can chime in?

You can touch any part on a car you want to if you simply know what you are doing and that includes the 5 million parts they tell you to never touch ever.............

Really need to do the relearn if you make a substantial change in how clean the part was, idle quality can be a pretty touchy thing.

I carefully opened my valve to clean it with a rag and to snake a scope in to the power valve screws. It was dirty but not too bad. I returned it back to closed before I buttoned it back up. Didn't have to relearn it so maybe got lucky.

I know all the parts are for a purpose. BUT what happens if the IACV plug is temporarily removed and pathy used pre-service? I know for reasonable idle operation the engine needs to be warmed up. -> Curious. Will it even start? Cannot blow ECM chip if there is no load or shorted IACV. Thanks ahead.✔️

I've replaced my IACV twice and never had to do an idle relearn, 2001 model.

A Good Forum Folks.
Will remove & clean my whole throttle body.
My 2001 Pathy TBS assy. has a Vac. throttle diaphragm stop, (with its Vac. coming off the Throttle body), not seen on a running 2001 QX4, so they are different?
I may need an ECU? Cheers All

From what remember, the drive-by-wire throttle body arrived with the 2003 Pathfinder, but not the 2003 QX4, it continued with the cable TB for it's last year.

If you remove the IACV from the TB, take the time to change the rubber gasket that prevents coolant from entering the IACV. Failure of this gasket is what causes the dreaded IACV/ECM short.
