Clatter???

im getting a sound onthe top of my engien that souds like clatter..its loud and bad because im trying to sell my car .it has 143 k mils on it with new belts and water pump...im wondering what it could be. im not surebut imhoping there is a way to fix it due to becasue im racing a chevy extreme in a week or two...but the car is running pretty strong but just noisey.....the clatter is pretty bad sounding..it needs to stop..thanks alot

it also could be lifter knock. I get this whenever I autocross, to solve it I just put enough oil so that it is about 2mm above the full mark on the dipstick. Don't add too much oil, cuz I think that is a bad thing...

Could be your timing chain retention bracket. Email me and i will tell you how to fix it. Its an easy fix.

check the timing chain b/c if you don't then it will cost you. These engines will hit the valves. Otherwise yeah it is probably lifter tap. This could mean that you aren't getting your engine oiled properly and the oil pump could be going. If you let the timing chain get real bad it can jump time and your car will run like total crap.
