Classing question for SCCA Solo 2

All over the world, Nissan products are involved in road racing, track days, time attack and autocross.

I plan on running my 1993 240SX in Atlanta Area Solo 2 next season. I'm going to stay in novice class as long as I can, but I'll need to know where I'll be classed after that. The mods I have are as follows

Removed AIVB&M shifterAluminum subframe collarsAluminum radiatorSilvia mirrors

Looking at the rulebook, all classes but SM say that you can't have metal bushings, but I don't know if the subframe collars would be considered replacing a bushing w/ metal, since I'm not actually replacing the bushing. Also, the removed AIV counts as removed emissions equipment, but I didn't see anything about that in the rules. If anyone can give me an idea as to what I should do as far as classing my car, or if I should take out the subframe collars and put the AIV back in so I can still run in G-stock, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would guess at the local autocross, as a new driver they wouldnt move you up for the subframe collars. I dont think the shifter would move you out of stock would it? While t your still using a rubber bushing, the rules do say something about an increase in the amount of metal used with the bushing dont they?

Well, actually it's regional, so all SCCA rules apply. You can run as a novice (mods mean nothing) for 2 events. I went back and read about the bushings again, it did say the amount of metal to rubber couldn't be greater than stock for all classes lower than SM. My stock suspension 240 and stock driver skills (haha) would get raped in SM, so I guess I'll be removing my subframe collars as prep for each event and then just putting them back on after it's over. Good thing it only takes about 20 minutes.

The basic rule of thumb for interpretating SCCA rules is that, unless they say you can do something, then you can't. For example, the shifter itself could toss you into Street Prepared, ditto the radiator.

Heck, to run in Stock I think you can change the shocks, either the front or rear swaybar (I can't remember which), the air filter (but not the housing), and tires (but not wheel size or offsets). Not much else.

Now, all of this is moot unless someone protests. Or you can do what I do, dump SCCA completely and find a group that's fun to run with. I stay away from the SCCA and Corvette clubs for various reasons; in my area I run with the BMW and Porsche clubs. They run them fast and friendly, although they don't hand out trophys

HTH, and have a good one,Mike
