A group of Arab-American high school students were reprimanded for wearing sweatshirts they made which school administrators said "distastefully" referenced the 9/11 terror attack on the World Trade Center.

Eleven boys from Edsel Ford High School's graduating class of 2011 in Dearborn, Mich., wore hooded sweatshirts to school Monday depicting the numeral 11 with windows drawn on each digit, so they looked like towers. Alongside the towers is a thunderbird, the school's mascot, flying towards them. The text below the images read "You can't bring us down."

"The whole design gave prominence to the 9/11 tragedy, and of course was very upsetting to staff and students," said Principal Hassane Jaafar in a statement.

In my opinion, the t-shirts were created in poor taste. There was a HUGE discussion about this on the local talk radio station. People were outraged that the shirts were allowed to be printed and that no one questioned the design. The clincher is that some people were on the fence as to whether to punish the boys until the comment was made that they were Arab-Americans. All of a sudden, everybody's outraged and claiming this was a veiled terrorlst threat, a slap in the face to all of those who died that day.

We'd all be better off without "freedom of the press". I'd vote to remove that from every law and article and regulation tomorrow if I could.

911 was an awful tragedy and those shirts are distasteful. But IMHO, just because the boys were arabic in descent doesn't mean it's some kind of veiled terrorlst propaganda tool of any kind.

People have been pushing fear on the people for long enough. If you wanna experience actual fear and the need to worry, move to a country that has bombs go off daily. I'm not condoning anything, I'm just tired of everyone making huge leaps and pushing there damn agenda on others.

If the terrorists really wanted to blow us up, they could do so with relative ease. Are we so stupid as to think that our homeland security is actually keeping terrorists out?

Buy a boat, dock in Canada, walk across the border and hit a subway or any crowded area with air born arsenic dust. If you burn 12 feet of pressure treated wood, the dust will have enough arsenic to kill 150 adults. If they wanted to, they could indeed create terror.

Americans are naive.

Needing a good old fashioned a**-kicking is an ethnicless criteria. Dumb is dumb and those shirts were really f***ing dumb. Beat the crap out of the kids in the parking lot after school and move along.

My sons school uses the paddle still. Number of swats depends on the violation and or number of violations. My son has never done this well in school and he turns in ALL of his homework. This is a public high school here in Texas. They enforce hair and dress code. Not crazy strict by any means, but it removes the dirt bags and emo kids. It's simply not allowed.

I don't agree with everything they do, but the above has made a very large difference in my sons behavior and grades, both for the better. s*** like those sweatshirts would have got your a** wacked in front of everyone currently at lunch, a good 4-5 wacks per retard.

I have to ask, does the statement "You can't bring us down," refer to the 2011 (towers) or the thunderbird flying toward the towers? Had this been a school in NYC, I could see that this could be an attempt to honor the attacks on 9-11. But Dearborn Michigan? Somehow, I doubt that was the rationale for the design.

Speaking of Dearborn Michigan. My buddy Nate use to live close Dearborn and would wear his "Friends of the IDF T-Shirt) (written in Hebrew) with his name on it. The jaws of the kids in the apartment complex would drop when he walked by. Classic Nate.

Behind every stupid idea a kid comes up with is an adult with an agenda who condoned it.

Tacky, inappropriate, and in poor taste.

Methinks there's some education needed re: the 9/11 attacks, as those kids were 8 when it happened.

I'll send you a box of McRibs if you'll pimpslap one of them across the table at the reunion, Jesda.
