Read in today's newspaper that a class action lawsuit has been filed against Nissan Canada. The claim is that the odometers in 2004 to 2007 Nissans Infinity's inflated the mileage by 2.5 to 4 percent. This means that warranties, both standard and extended would not be fully realized and that resale value would be decreased due to higher mileage. As the owner of a '07 Versa I sure hope that mine isn't one of the ones with inflated mileage. That would mean that my gas mileage is even crappier than it already is. Fellow Canadian Nissan owners may want to research this one to get in on any settlement, if there is one.

A) It's Infiniti (a little pet-peeve of mine...)

B) 2.5 to 4%? So over 1,000 miles, 40 miles more would be reported, at max. i guess that's pretty significant by 50,000 miles (+ 2,000 miles @ 4%). Interesting...I wonder who noticed this? Over short spans the mileage add-on would be less noticeable, we usually fill up around 200-250 miles, which would be an increase of 8 to 10 miles at most, something I'd probably never detect. Of course, in km, that's 322 to 402 km, so the inflation would be proportionally a few ticks higher.

C) Is this just a Nissan Canada thing?

It indicates that Honda USA was already forced to settle a similar suit last fall. The Nissan suit is being filed in Canada but apparently there is and ongoing case in Texas as well. This lawsuit would be of particular interest to anyone who may have had issues shortly after their warranty expired.

Yeah, I recall hearing about Honda's situation with inaccurate odometers. This really is a black eye. So I guess the only compensation is warranty extension?
