So Obama want us to have an army of citizens... last I checked that's what made up our army. We also have the national guard, and idk about other states but we also have the New York Guard. The NYG is basically for people who can't get into another branch of the service for w/e reason. And what was that "Just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded" bit. Wouldn't that double our military budget?

I think this is being taken out of context. He isn't talking about armed soldiers, he's talking about people inspecting borders, ports, etc. for illegal activity. Similar to the TSA bots that "harass" us at airports.

I wouldn't mind Obama rallying a bunch of new minutemen to secure the borders, anyways...

It has been since the 1920's. US Border Patrol is a department of US Customs, which is part of the DHS.

Which are government entities. I'm quite familiar with DHS, Customs, INS etc, as I live 4 miles from the shore of Lake Erie. My Dad's old house was on the lake. Being the military man he is, when 9/11 happened, he sat on the deck with binoculars for 6 months. However, military protection is one of the things I pay the government for, "provide the common defense".

What Mr. Obama is suggesting is that our security is relatively weak and our citizens should join the new defense force. Seems similar to hiring more Border Patrol Agents, TSA employees, etc.

The Coast Guard. That's their job last I knew.

You can find them at Halloween websites. I was thinking along the same lines when I saw the red, white, and blue posters of Obama after he won the election. We've seen these kinds of posters before in history...that thought kinda scares me but hopefully all of this OMG OBAMA stuff blows over. Not to discredit the man, what he is about to do is amazing and touches a lot of people, but honestly, lets get real here.
