I did some research into these numbers and i found a large flaw. The data you have is faulty because those graduation rates were based on: This student enrolled in this school as a 9th grader and did not graduate from this school. Now, heres where the problem comes in. Say the student were to switch to a private school, another local school, or the child moved...According to this research that student did not graduate. Though its not possible that all of the students, shown as not graduating, moved or transfered but there is no way of telling how much of the percentage did move or transfer.

my high school using the same considerations, people moving and such, has a consistent graduation rate of around 95%, so its probably still about as bad as it seems

IT all depends on where you live. Detroit is in michigan and michigan has the highest rate of people leaving the state and lowest in-coming. Oh plus, once in high school parents in detroit public schools find it necessary to put their children in better schools to help get their kids into college because detroit public schools are the easiest to pass.

Jeebus christ. I fail at life.

Yes.

Matt, I apologize. Thread-editing in progress.

Edit* This is why I try never to break my own rule of using screen name rather than real name unless I have at least swapped e-mail with the person I'm talking to. I am shamed.

Sorry, I missed the edits...

I can't find the actual link I pulled that list off but you can use this MSNBC link as it has a table in the middle that goes from high to low:

Am I the only one who thinks that doesn't seem very scientific.

Again,"Indianapolis Indianapolis Public Schools 30.5"

Indianapolis has a few Metropolitan School Districts within its borders. Lawrence, Pike, Washington, Wayne, Perry, Franklin and Warren which are NOT a part of Indianapolis Public Schools. These other districts should go into factoring the graduation rates of Indianapolis as a whole.

when you guys are discussing what i said about my school let me give you some facts about my school. - 30% white, 40% Mexican, 30% black thats about how its broken down. - our school system has been reformed due to the failing in our schools. In our school system, if you fail a test or if you fail a class.... you have 2 weeks to make up that test or class and when you do this recovery you can score an 80% at most which is a b- , oh and you can be absent as many times as you want, as long as your still excused. - Our schools top of the social ladder consists of very few intelligent people, the majority are a waste of a body.

Wow

In the school my kids went through (and my step daughter is currently in), if you miss too many days of school they report you to Family Child Services.

When I was in school, they had Saturday school. Nothing is worse than going to school on a Saturday.

The attendance policy is new to us, but before the change it was 10 days of being absent in a marking period. if you were absent more than 10 times then you failed the class.
