Hello. This is my first post to this forum. I am planning to buy a used 2000 Maxima or Infiniti I30 this week. I read about horror stories of ECM getting fried due to short circuits of IACV motor and engine-mount drive circuits. Once I have the car, I'm thinking of adding inline fuses to IACV motor and engine mount circuits. What should be the appropriate fuse ratings? Anyone with insight on how much typical current is flowing thru those circuits? I thought about this to avoid spending a fortune on ECM replacement. I'm wondering also why Nissan engineers did not put a short circuit protection on driver circuits nor at least move the power transistors out of the ECM.

You could beg, borrow or steal a clamp on amp meter and measure the current. On second thought, don't steal one, just borrow it if you don't have one.

I would be interested to know what rating fuse/link to use as well!
