as of Jan 16 2009, Circuit City will be out of business.

Closing 567 remaining stores in US.34,000 people will lose jobs.

On a bright side, feels like Christmas again, get all the gadgets you want now....

The liquidation starts Jan 17 2009. Be sure to check and compare prices with other retailers.

Well, circuitcity.com is offline now, so probably not. I read elsewhere that their call center and website will cease operations by the end of the weekend.

If anyone has any gift cards/store credit left, now's the time to use it.

Only if you don't plan on returning it (defective item, incompatible, etc.)

I'm not even going to bother stopping by the local store. When CompUSSR shuttered its doors last year, I stopped by the Wilmington, DE location and their "clearance" prices were still higher than the Best Buy down the road I'm expecting that CC's liquidators will do the same thing.

This kinda sucks... I always felt like Circuit City employees knew more about the product than their competitors... I guess its not that big of a deal, there aren't any anywhere near me now.

There sales suck so far! Even with the 10-20% off they are still more then best buy, since they marked up all there stuff...(Thank God for my iPhone)!

Wait until the fools who see "sale" are done and they mark down to some real sale prices 50%-60%, at that point they will be 20-25% less then Best Buy.

Guys, don't forget liquidators are not out to give you good deals. Please research before you buy. Some things will be obviously great deals others will be rip-offs.

Yeah, I stopped by CC today and most of stuff are on like 10% off and music/video are like 20% off... They definitely have set all prices back to msrp.

You aren't going to find amazing deals on stuff that is really awesome - you're not getting that series 8 samsung for $1000 bucks guys - the whole point of the liquidation is to get rid of everything at the best price - all of those high end TV's get sold off to other companies at slightly lower prices than they would normally pay instead of giving it to you at 50% off...it's all the cheap crap that you get at discounts in the end...

Yeah D... the Internet!

http://www.slickdeals.net FTMFW!

Ive bought(mostly online) and sold(ebay) tens of thousands of bucks worth of stuff...

The only time i was ever able to get a deal at a retail store (that wasnt a price mistake) that could rival/beat online deals was black friday... and this black friday stunk, i didnt even go out...

The past 2 years before that, you could find me 1st in line (in a tent from thxgiving at noon, till 6am the next morning) waiting for deals with a few friends I paid to wait in line with me so I could get more items..(i was interviewed once for tv while i was there, pretty funny)

Liquidation is something also to be looked into, some of the posters here mentioned it, but they bring in teams of people (often times they buy all the products) that sell off the stuff as quickly and profitably as possible, THIS IS THEIR BUSINESS... dont expect to walk out with the deal of the century, or the guy there before you would have gotten it! Or someone like me with a uhaul would have been there 5 hours before they opened and taken it ALL!

I've seen too many people get scammed by places like this, so I've gotta chime in with my two cents. Generally, chains this large have their product bought up by a liquidation firm (as LBC said). The highest bidder to CC gets the honors (I don't know who picked up CC, but a google search will probably reveal it).

Again, as LBC said, it is this company's job to make a profit. So they are going to try to sell all of the crap they just bought from CC for the highest amount possible. They also know how gullible and naive many people can be, so they scam them. Nearly everything in the store will say 10% or 20% off right now. If you look at the sign, it will probably say mark off from "regular price". This could seem like a good deal, but what is regular price? I can tell you that the vast majority of the time it is NOT equal to circuit city's regular price. Seems illegal, but they get away with it because the regular price is Liquidation Firm A's regular price (which is conveniently higher than CC's price was). Early on in most liquidation deals, that item that is 10-20% off may actually end up being MORE expensive than it would've been at CC before liquidation.

Point is, do your research. Good deals are RARELY stumbled upon. Figure out what you need, and price it out at other stores. Then check the liquidation sale to see if it is actually cheaper. Deals can be had, but you've gotta be smart about it.

ABC News did a report on liquidation sales and how consumers end up paying more:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMiBVlXctM8

I stopped by the local CC in Exton, PA out of curiosity (since it's right next door to the Barnes & Noble and I needed some new reading material). Total nuthouse, tons of sheeple buying big-ticket items and DVDs.

I might actually stop back tomorrow and pick up a 2000 Wii Points card since video game accessories are 30% off so it'd be slightly cheaper than buying points directly from Nintendo even after tacking on 6% sales tax.
