Hey guys, total noob to 240s here. I've been driving big GM econo-luxury cars my whole life and want to give something different a shot.

I've always liked 240s, and think that's the next thing for me.. so I've been doing a lot of searching and not having much luck. I'm not too picky, but I absolutely don't want something molested, I don't want to deal with someone's modifications that were done with no knowledge of how to properly do them.

My ideal 240, however, would be a manual trans, coupe instead of a hatch... I like the shard angle of the rear window a lot... and it would be RHD. That would be so awesome... but I haven't yet found one skimming through Craigslist and Ebay.

So that leads me here.. I'm sure you guys know more than any on the best ways to find these cars (perhaps there's even some selling on this site). Just a couple quick questions and I'll quick rambling.

1. RHD... how rare is this? Are there only a few floating around in the US that have been imported? What kind of price tag does the average one command (molested, beat, or otherwise?).
2. What would be the best place to track one of these down? I haven't had time to skim the classifieds on this site yet, but just curious if there's any other good places to start.

And finally...
3. Are these cars decent in winter? I've always wanted to avoid a RWD in the winter.. but if I got one for a summer car that would mean I'd have to get rid of the show Buick I've been building since highschool. It's finished now, and I don't like it as much as I used to.. but I'd still rather keep that and sell the daily driver and just run the 240 in the winter. But, it's still all up in the air really.

Well that's me. Carry on.

There is no RHD 240SX. You can get a Silvia, but then you run into legal issues that would have to be skirted, and some states are more stringent than others when it comes to titling a car like that.

Check everywhere. Local newspapers, craigs, ebay, our classifieds, others' classifieds. You'll find one.

I've never had an issue driving mine in the winter time. But Virginia winters are definitely more mild than most other places. I've had more issues with water on the road than I've had driving over snow and ice. The same rules for FWD apply to RWD. Just take it nice and slow when the weather gets crappy

Only RHD silvia that is registered correctly I've seen in person. I hope you have $11k.

Decent in winter if you aren't dumb and have great tires.
Great in the rain if you aren't dumb and have great tires.

Check your local car forum and make a WTB thread for a 240sx.

Don't Do it. you don't want one it's a total money pit.

And your back is gonna hate you....

So just playing....kinda but seriously if your are used to luxury vehicles know what you are about to jump intoo, alot of these cars aren't just turn key and drive around all day. There old and crap breaks all the time especially if you drive one hard. One well taken care of and low mileage would be great for a first one tho, shoot for that if you can find one and preferably owned by an older person too

I wouldn't say correctly registered. It was cheesed in as a Kit Car in SC, and because of that, the title was transferred to Virginia still as a kit car. Not sure if another state would allow that. I've met Rob and his car, and it's a good car. I wish I had gotten a hold of him a few months ago to figure out a way to retro fit a JDM oh sh1t handle into my vert.

buy oil and zip ties in bulk

and don't be so quick to assume that just because a previous owner did something to the car that they did it incorrectly, just inspect it carefully

Ah, learning things already, excellent. Silvia it is then. I guess I'll start perusing zilvia's classifieds from time to time.. just waiting for the perfect one some day. A RHD coupe silvia.. mm

I'm not worried about any mechanical failures really, I work at an independent shop as a day job and have all the tools I need there, and a lift.. just in cases.

Indeed I would inspect it carefully if there's questionable things going on. I would rather start with something stock, maybe a little rough around the edges for a cheaper price that I could then fix and paint to my liking, but I suppose a guy can't be picky if it's difficult to find the model I'm looking out for. Around here, though, most of the "go fast" kind of cars like these are built by highschool kids or weird guys in their 20's who do drugs while in the garage, neither of which end up good. There's only a couple well built import style cars I've ran into in my town that have been properly built up. The rest have spaghetti and twist-on wire caps under the hood.

I suppose I may have to suck it up and sell my Buick though.. been building it into something neat since I was 17.. and I basically finished it this year. Now I'm bored and need a project. I really like hellaflush and the boxier style body kits, I'd probably end up with something like this:

And I think it'd be a nightmare in the winter.. plowing snow, no thanks. So summer car it is. I'll keep my fwd for the winter.. been kicking around ditching the Olds Aurora for a Civic or something easy on gas.

Anywho, Cheers, thanks for the info!!

My 240 has been great to me, I have around 260k on it and it still runs strong. Has some electrical issues that pop up every now and then but overall its been the best car i've ever owned. In the winter time I put my stock wheels on and let it eat in the snow (has a LSD), and it actually moves around pretty good for what it is. My engine is stock, my exhaust is stock (and falling apart), and basically everything else is stock. I dont pussyfoot around with the car and it has taken the abuse well. If I could find a low mileage 240 for the right price I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

EDIT: What kind of Buick do you have???

Well Hoffman, your bumpers appear to match your car's color, and are uncracked. Just that alone puts you in a class above the stuff in my area, lol.

The shop job indeed is sweet, I actually got it because I know the guy who owns it.. he was doing it all by himself, and asked me if I wanted to put some time in, and I do around 24 hours a week there. The rest goes to stereos, remote starts, etc at the other job.. which was part time but just went full, but anyways..

As for the Buick... this is it:

Disgusting hours went into bastardizing it like that, and that's why I'm so hesitant to ditch it.

Just for fun, too.. the daily Olds...
