Cilajet automotive sealant - have you used it?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I stopped in one of the local Infiniti dealers today and saw that they were now offering an product called "Cilajet". It is a coating that was originally developed for aircraft that is applied to the paint for protection.

Here is their Web site: http://www.cilajet.com/

I'm just curious if any of you have had this product applied to your EX (or any other vehicle for that matter)? We got our EX in black, which is the first time I have ever owned a black car. I love the way it looks but have not been able to get used to how much more the dirt shows on black. I would be very interested to know if the Cilajet claims of better shine and reduced washing needs are indeed true.

In case anyone is curious, the dealer was offering the following packages of Cilajet for the EX:

Exterior Only: $795 USDExterior and interior: $895 USDExterior, interior and rims: $995 USD

I'd love to hear any experience that anyone may have.

Thanks for the help!Rian

Looks pretty cool. I'm a bit skeptical though, but only because I have never heard of them before.

As for the interior protection, I think most cars are already protected from the factory so you can probably skip that one.

I did a little more research and found a lot of other forums where about 1/2 of the posts are singing the praises of this product and the other half and saying to run like the wind. From what I can tell it is a very new company...probably best to wait it out and see how others fare with it.

Oh boy -- another snake oil company, probably. If they are selling it for $900, the cost is probably around $200 and the "stuff" can probably be bought somewhere for $50 or less.

These are glorified wax jobs that usually require you to bring the car back in to the dealer for a "re-application" once a year.

There's Polymers, Teflon, carnuba, resin's and the list goes on. Newer! Better! Faster! Shinier? What's next? The Car Condom? - protects your car against ANYTHING! Universal fit! Unlimited sex appeal! Wooo Hooo!

Just take it to a good car wash (hand wash or the ones with the chamoix sp) strips - NO brushes please -- and then have the car waxed/detailed twice per year. There's a drive thru car wash near our home that has those strips, and I have been running many of our cars thru there for the past 5 years with NO marks or swirls or anything else bad. Then I can detail it once I get the cars home. $4 each time.

There is nothing on the market that will make a black car look clean when drivin in the weather. I've owned 5 black cars and they are all but impossible to keep shiny. I now own pearl white cars and it's amazing how little they show dust or dirt. Love black; hate cleaning it.

Good luck and save that $grand for the occasional hand wax at a detail shop.

My dealer offered something similar and I didn't get it. But I was a little bit interested in it because of the warranty; the sealant itself probably doesn't cost much, but you'd be paying for the warranty. If I got chips in the paint from a rock, or tree sap on the paint, it'd be nice to get that fixed for free. But, I didn't look at the fine print of the warranty so I don't know if it really covers things like that.

I recently purchase a New Car. I was told about cilijet by the Internet sales manager who stated "scratches and dents will be repaired at no cost, interior, tears in the seats, burns, etc will be repaired at no cost. I was hit in a parking lot, minor scratches to the back side bumper and took my car back to the dealer, who told me to contact you direct. I was told by your representative that you do not cover scratches, or dents, just environmental wear, ie. fading. If I would have know this in the beginning, I would never have paid $1600 for this coating. I wash my car regularly, and wax occasionally. I am so disappointed in this experience, that I will not ever use, or recommend this product or Toyota, and plan on pursuing this matter to the fullest. My mom was sitting with me when he explained this and heard the same thing... Dents the size of softballs or smaller will be fixed at not charge to me, scratches will be repaired at no cost to me, interior tears and accidental burns will be repaired at no cost to me. Never did they mention that the dents had to be "paintless", which is what they said when I took my scratched car to them, and scratches are not covered either. Wow... Again, I never would have paid for this if I know it only covered environmental "wear". I am also going to submit this information to Attorney General, Toyota.com, and possibly my attorney.

I bought a used (one year old 12k miles) G37xS a few years ago and let the dealer talk me into a paint sealer/interior protector add on. It was supposed to last 5 years for $500. It seemed to be wearing off after a year. Never used the paintless dent part of the deal because the bigger problem was hood/nose scratches from highway debris, which was not covered. I realized after I should have gotten a clear bra instead. Have gotten 2 new cars in past two years and did exactly that with no regrets. The price you are being quoted seems really inflated, and if you think about it you could be getting your car detailed with new wax every year (or even twice a year) for many years to come for what that costs.
