Cig lighter question

Is the cig lighter hooked up to a constant 12v source? so far mine only has power when the key is on, and I was wondering if that is as designed.

nope, your car is wired wrong.

Mine is not constant, it's switched so that it won't work unless the key is on or past accessory.

I have no idea what mine is, because I don't use it. I'll have to check that next time I go to my car.

in '89-'90 240s the cig lighter is activated by the accessory 1 relay.the accessory 1 relay is activated by the ignition switch in the acc and on posittions.

so yeah, the cig lighter only comes on when you turn the key.also, I can think of no reason it would be different in all other 240s
