I used the search engine and couldn't find this topic as a recent discussion. Does anyone have suggestions or alternatives to replace the cigarette lighter/ash tray on a 2009 G37x sedan, a/t, premium pkg, wood trim? I have no use for this and the owners manual recommends not using the lighter as a power source for other devices (gps, radar) as it has a higher power level and could short the device. If it can be replaced by an alternate power source for my GPS (even a coin storage tray) that would be fine. I'm looking for suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I would love to do the same, too, in my '07 G35 sedan. I don't smoke (and would never allow anyone else to in my car, either) and the location of the cig lighter & ashtray is perfect for plugging in my cell charger (much more so than the power source located inside the center console). Not to mention I usually put my cell phone inside the ashtray while I'm driving anyway. I was surprised that cars were still made with these nowadays (especially those destined for CA - one of the most anti-smoking states in the Union). It kind of reminds me of the old '76 pontiac we had when I was a kid that had metal ashtrays mounted to the backs of the front seats and next to the interior door handles...

I asked the dealer during my 1K mile checkup yesterday and they aren't aware of any options for this. They also said the lighter port could be used to power many devices but to discontinue use if it blows a fuse either in the device or the car.
