Chrome wheels on my 2006 G35x are slowly leaking air around the bead. Took it to a tire shop and they said this is a common problem with chrome wheels. The chrome around the bead area corrodes and flakes and won't seal with the tire.

Anyone else had or heard of this problem? I'm thinking it should be covered under warranty. However they may want to replace with alloy wheels and I really like the look of the chrome wheels!

Never heard that either. The chrome on my wheels hasn't caused me any problems whatsoever. Go to the dealer and let them know your wheel is jacked up and you want a new one under warranty.

Aren't they required to hook you up with an exact OEM replacement? And not just switch you to alloy?

Good luck! Let us know what they say.

The airleak sounds pretty fishy.

I thought the same thing until I Googled "chrome wheel air leak". Several links discussing the same problem on various other models.

Yeah,

I've googled it quickly. There is some complains. Hm.. never though it is possible. Maybe if you ask the tire shop to clean the rims and you can apply some rust proof spay on it. Just make sure to read the label. Rubber doesn't like to many things.

Other then that I have no idea what to do. My favorite rims are chrome. I guess I won't buy them.

You may be able to sand the chrome down using 400 paper, which is very gentle. Following the sanding, there are sealants you can rub over the rim's edge where the tire seal is created. This should do the trick. This is actually as ancient a problem as the old steel rims that rusted. A little gentle sanding plus a gentle adhesive that also created a rubbery bond was all it took. Just be sure to not sand only one spot, otherwise you'll create a valley that leaks.

Tire Rack guys can be of help; however, I've found them to also give incorrect advice at times.
