Fellow Forum Members,
I have plans of painting my 2001 Pathfinder black so it can look like new again. However, I'm playing around with the idea of removing my roof rack and having it chrome plated. I admit I don't know the first thing about chrome plating therefore I would like opinions on whether or not chrome plating will work on this rack since some of it feels like a hard plastic. Will chrome plating work on hard plastic? I would also appreciate opinions on whether a chrome plated roof rack will look aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

In addition, I plan to buy some chrome rims. I'm not sure whether it's better to go with 22" rims or 20" rims. I would love to hear from Pathfinder owners with opinions on what the best size rim is for a 2001 Pathfinder. And whether 75,000 mile rated tires exist for such rims.

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Personally I think a chrome roof rack would look terrible and you can't chrome plate the rubber strips or plastic.

Well, you can't chrome rubber or anything that'll flex, but you can chrome plate hard plastic. I imagine you'd have to completely disassemble the pieces though, and I'm not sure how easy that is or if it's even possible. I could see it looking good with matching wheels on black, albeit not a look I would rock personally. I'd love to see it in black chrome :naughty: Or maybe a good mix of black and chrome, like on the Armada:

You can be assured the mirror covers and door handles there aren't metal. If you're looking at chrome pieces on the car, you may consider things like the door handles too.

Thanks to all for the post. The black chrome and chrome on the Pathfinder roof rack in the photo looks real nice. Another option I have been thinking about is powder coating my roof rack. Does anyone out there have a 2001 Pathfinder with 22" chrome rims? I'm wondering how the ride feels like with 22" rims and low profile tires. Is it a smooth ride? Or is the ride rough? Any opinions welcomed.

I think it's safe to assume that the thinner the tire, the more rough the ride will be, regardless of rim size. Like A LOT more rough, but I guess it also depends on various other factors that could be changed..
