I'm picking up my gold/sand 1990 Q45 on the 2nd, and I'm wondering how you think chrome piepans would look. I really liked them on Wes's crimson Q and my former green Q45, where they looked like shiny medallions next to dark paint.

I'm wondering if the lack of contrast with a gold body would require me to get 16 or 17" wheels to enjoy any kind of visual impact. Basically, I'd spend $75 extra in gas to go up to the Bay area to pick them up.

the chromed piepans do look pretty good, but i'm still not a huge fan of the look, i feel it takes too much away from the sporty aspect of the Q (esp. the 90Q). i can't tell you how many compliments i got, and how many people said what an improvement, when i put the 99Q rims on and lower profile tires. i'm sure the calif. rims will make it even better! just my 2cents.

No reason to get any other wheel unless it is as good or better in quality and to specification.

NuQ,Those rims look great on the G50. Good work! Also, Jesda the best looking 90-93 Gold G50 I have ever seen, had stock BBS wheels on 235 tires. The gold 16" BBS wheel looks good as well, but too monochromatic for me. I will be getting rid of my extra set of BBS's soon (moving), so let me know if you are interested.

Actually I think the chrome piepans will look better on Sand than they do on Crimson and Green.

Those Y33 wheels look *GREAT* on that green car.

Jesda, I think that the F50's "champagne"-finished rims would look really kickass on a sand Q, but I also second the comment about the BBS's, or really any other mesh wheel.

Jes, what happened to the Bimmer? Now your getting a Q again? Make upyour mind! If you ask my opinion, I've never been a fan of the piepansTry to see if you find some gold BBS if you want to stay stock or get the Y3316in rims. They look good on nuQ's Q and I like how they look on mine. I'mHappy with them.

These are what I've ended up with after a long battle with "tire rubbing" because of inaccurate offset #s, with a set of nice Konig Appeals.I guess I would go with OEM just because it's the safest thing to do all things considered, when one is on a spending budget. This is what the 17s that come stock with the 00-01 models look like on a G50, on a VERY rainy SoCal day..

Thanks Wes,It's been a while since we talked. It cost me quite a bit of time and money to end up with this set up.

I ran a thread a while back about the issues that I had with the Konig Appeals.

Everybody here seemed to think that the +40 mm offset was NOT correct, even though that's what the Konig website and Dealer were saying.I could have kept them and rolled the fenders but I didn't want to do that.So now I'm trying to sell them on ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1They looked nice as well, however I'm very pleased with this look.

Here's a photo of the previous look.

I think I'll bid on these:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...WA:IT

The guy is close enough, and since hes only doing local pickup, I expect to be the only bidder.

Hey Jesda,

How are digging your new Q? It's good to hear you're back in one.

This dude is in Bloomington. Is 180 miles what you consider close enough?

It looks like a good deal though. I would make sure that they are true before I mount them on the Q. Reason I'm bringing it up is because I had to get one of the 00-01 wheels repaired. These you're looking at come with tires though so maybe they don't have that problem........

I've always liked the BBS look, I just wish you could get 16s or 17s.

Maybe you can wait a while, save some $$$ and get the ones you REALLY want.

Good luck though whatever you decide to do. Also don't forget ...PICTURES

D.

My concern with bigger wheels is the cost of tires. Its getting harder to find good 15" tires with a proper load rating, but they're still a lot cheaper than 17 or 18".

I dont do any autocrossing or mountain driving (we have no mountains), so I'm not too concerned about the handling advantages, partly why I sold the BMW. I basically need a rocket sled for road trips.

I'm picking up the Q Thursday morning in Orange County. Buz is meeting me at the airport with it.

This guy in Illinois has been emailing me, and we've been negotiating the price of the TCU, wheels, injectors, and FPCU. In the end, I found a better deal on a TCU from Robert in LA , I'm getting my old set of injectors back from Larry, and if I bid on the wheels I can get them for 1/3 what he was asking up front.

Never negotiate with a foreigner. You never win.

I think the Fittipaldis are a nice "close to stock"choice. And for fifty bucks, you cant go wrong. The only thing I don't get is why you got rid ofthe first Q in the first place. You had the guidesdone. It was running well. Do you have to do theguides on this new one?

Last one had vibrations, nasty seats, crippled suspension, and constant AC issues. The drivetrain was rock solid though.

I wasn't originally planning on getting another Q, but for $1300 I'm stealing this one.

It had the climate system revamped at 70k, timing chain guides and timing chain at 80k, transmission at 80k, valve cover at 138k... pretty much everything maintained well above and beyond a typical old Q. Exterior is perfect. Interior just needs a side bolster resurfaced on the driver seat. The sound system has been deBosed. Just needs two injectors, which I have.

Well then, we have a verdict. The OEM wheels are 4.64 lbs heavier per, but I gotta admit the car feels a lot more solid. I was very lucky with these wheels. Right after I got them I found out from Jerry Tucker's in San Diego that one of them was bent so the dude I bought them from was a stand up enough guy that he reimbursed my Paypal 1/4 of the buying price. So the whole set up ended up costing me $520 shipping included. The $130 I was credited went for the repair so I guess it turned out ok.
