Chrome grill extension (chrome outline) w/black 'interior'

I have a red '08 Rogue, and of all the colors I think Venom Red Rogues are most in need something different on the front end. I always assumed the full 'egg crate' grill add-on was the obvious answer....but I've been seeing more and more Rogues with it and I'm not liking them like I thought I would (exception is silver Rogues, I actually do like the look).

So I've been thinking that the chrome grill extension (it's just the outline in chrome) is a better choice. But there's still something a little off about it. Has anyone thought about painting the internal grille black, just like the horizontal black ridges inside the Nissan badge in the middle of the grill? This would give you a chrome outlined grill with black internal waffles to match the central Nissan badge with black ridges. I think it might be just the right look (and at a relatively low price) to make the front end look more 'right.'

Thoughts? Has anyone actually done this?

It doesn't look right. The inside grille should be blacked out. It would be easy enough to do.

Exactly what I'm suggesting. The picture in the link isn't how I'd like it to look, just an example of the chrome trim.
