Yea we have all the old TSB books too, this dealer I am at used to be in another part of town , pretty much since dirt was dirt. There are only 2 guys left from the original store and none of them had them either. I am going to have to let that part of the job slide, I didnt sell him or recommend the rewire any how. As it turns out just replacing the coils on the VE fixed it. If you ever come across an old J30 VE with a problem where a customer complains of occasional dieing and total power loss under hard accel intermittenly. When you are driving it and watching consult , under hard accel when the car gets over 4k RPM it intermittenly cuts total power , like you grabbed the ignition and turned the car off, your consult screen goes to "wait" but when you let off the throttle it comes back to life and you can accelerate again and may not have it cut out this time. IF you hold the throttle to the floor and let the car coast down to around 25 mph the surging you see the tack do will start being felt as the car will accel then drop then accel in split second intervals, but again when you let off the throttle it will come back to life and off you go. Honestly strangest thing I have ever seen. I checked everything from TPS, to MAF , to ECCS[EFI] relay. Checked grounds load tested circuits, Then I disconnected coils one at a time till it didnt cut out in numerous accels. Finally traced it to #5 coil. Then went to asist for the second time and was able to find a tip refferring to rewiring the Power transistor with a diag out of that issue.
