My acceleration is choppy sometimes, especially under heavy accel. The check engine light came on one day after hard acceleration , and the problem has persisted ever since. The mechanic gave me the following codes . Being firestone though, they couldnt really tell me much about the problem.

code 28 overheat

14 speed sensor

31 electronic controle module

21 - ignition coil

. Do you think that just replacing the speed sensor should do the trick? What do you think is happening? Note, the car has 230k miles.

its not going to be your speed sensor because you can run without the signal reaching your ecu (thats the way I removed the governor). Im guessing it would be 21 or 31.

check your grounds first zerothread/159907

Not sure whats happening but the speed sensor wont affect acceleration. Mine was choppy when the IACV wasnt set properly

How's your temp and coolant level. I overheated my poor car once, and it got crazy choppy acceleration.

When you say choppy, is it a missfire,or is the car just falling on its face?

ok..I thought I fixed my choppy accel but it seems to manifest during warm up. its choppy between 1800-2000rpm and mostly in low gears. if Im in 2nd gear and let the rpm drop to 1800rpm then step on the gas it chokes. I tested it with speed sensor on and off so Im pretty sure its not the speed sensor. I didnt have any codes though. I'll post back on what I'll find
