About a week and a half ago I was running pretty low on gas in my 2011 versa. I stopped at a 7-11, which is not my normal site for a fill up with the intention of putting a few gallons in to tide me over. I got distracted emptying trash out of my car and I ended up filling the tank. I know I should remember if I tried to "top off" or not, but I don't think I did. Since then I have trouble starting the car.

It takes a few seconds of the key turn. When I shift into gear it often stalls or does so as soon as I press the accelerator down to reverse. I typically need to restart and I can get it going at that point, though initial acceleration is sketchy. I drive about thirty miles to work every day and it does fine on open road.

Initially, the SES light came on and remained on until I put in 1/4 tank of gas (I was down to 3/4) and I had used high octane at that point. The light disappeared after that fill up and has not returned.

On a suggestion from a coworker I put some dry gas in. I had a quarter of a tank at that point. I ran it down close to empty, refilled it with gas from my dependable fill station, and then put in another bottle in. I'm still having problems.

Is my fuel filter clogged? If so, while I have found instructions on how to access the fuel pump (http://www.nissanversa.org.com/engine ... oting.html), I have not seen how to get to the filter, itself, and I need some guidance there.

Any thoughts?

Oh. And on listening to the engine (from inside the car) there is some tapping coming from the engine.

A year ago i had a similar symptoms like your except it wont crank over and I went to advance auto part and bought a bottle of seafoam. I poured 2/3 of the bottle in and filled it with gas from shell gas station and 2/3 days later, the problem went away.

Give it a try... sometime you got a bad tank of gas or you had water in your gas tank. Who know but seafoam solve the problem for me.

Here's the "How-to" for Seafoaming your engine. It makes a huge difference.
