This is really strange.

When I'm traveling at a high rate of speed (>80mph) and hit decent sized bump on the road, I will sometimes get a serious jolt and get pushed out of my seat. When that happens, I hear a chirp - like a bird chirp.

First I thought I was crazy. Then I thought it was a sound coming from my suspension. :yesnod Then I thought maybe there is a bird stuck in the card somewhere. But it happened 3 times on my drive today (about 90 miles total). I can't get a good look at my dash when it happens to see if a warning light comes on. I finally settled on it being a warning sound of some kind.

It happened 3 times on my drive today (about 90 miles total). My coilovers are quite stiff (5 clicks from hard in the front, 7 clicks from hard in the back), so it is most definitely a jarring ride. But I don't think springs or struts can make that kind of sound.

Has anyone heard a chirp coming from their Altima?

My car makes a log of different random noises. If you can get a soundclip of it it would be very helpful.

+1 on sound clip. I bet it's suspension related.

Mine makes a similar chirping noise when weight gets put on the center console... maybe the bump in the road acts as stress on it???

Ill turn on my phone's sound recorded in the hopes of catching it on my commute.

Russ, I want to try to reproduce what you're experiencing. Do you drop something heavy on the center console, or does the chirping sound happen while you're simply resting something on it? How heavy are we talking about, and where exactly is it?

Thanks

Don't go 80+ over large bumps on the road and you not have problem. ;)

The chirping happens when I either get into the car using the arm rest on the center console, or if I'm repositioning myself using the arm rest part of the center. Now I weigh 280 lbs, so I'm no light weight, so I realy don't know if thats what ur experiencing. I just thought that might make sense cuz its a weird loud chirping in the car, probably coming from part of the mechanism that opens the center console...

Hitting large bumps or potholes causes a chirp from the right side of my dashboard. Dunno what it is, but I just take the Ranga approach.
