Hey people!

Ok, I get this chirp noise, every time I turn my truck on. It's a constant chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp, sounds like a very loud cricket. It goes away once my truck is warm enough, but when I hit the road and hit the accelerator it does that chirp noise. The more I press on the accelerator the faster the chirp goes. When warm and I turn off my truck and leave it off like for 10 min. and then turn it back on, it doesn't do that noise anymore.

I wonder if belt spray will fix that noise?

belt spray will mask the noise temporarily but for longest belt life and proper repair you should really re-tension the belts to spec

i have heard many gear heads say that belt dressing can cause belt problems, and not to use the stuff

well thats why they're sqeualing. new belts stretch out after a few months and you will need to tighten the belts. Mine squealed like a pig a few months after i replaced my belts.

See, it's not squealing, I know how that squeal noise sounds cause I had them re-tighten when it started doing that. I'm talkin about a chirp noise that strictly comes from underneath the belts.

ohhh. so maybe a pulley or bearing is squeaking with the rotations. I never had that problem. Good luck.

That is exactly what my 99.5 was doing. It almost looked like the crankshaft pulley wasnt out of balance. Not sure if that is the case or not. I sprayed most of the area with silicone and the crankshaft pulley with pb blaster/penetrating oil. No more squeak. I plan on replacing the belts soon. If squeak comes back after replacing belts I may replace crankshaft pulley (they are really really pricey though). Also, the chirping sound was louder when it was colder out.

How many miles? Done any work lately? Sounds like a belt or idler pulley.

AlabanaDan,I currently have in the mid 70k range. Noticed the chirp months ago before I had really done any work. I have since replaced A/C condensor & drier. Have new belts from Rob @ McKinney TX Nissan waiting to be replaced. I havent been driving the Pathfinder the last few weeks or so (waiting on some Hubcentric Rings for new wheels for vibration prob). Anxious to see if chirp starts again after Silicone Spary magic ceases. Thanks for info and will post results once I get back to the Pathfinder Maintenance.

Well mines is at about 118K. Lately it hasn't been too bad, today was chilly and the noise some how was a little louder. Funny though is that when I'm driving it makes that noise when I hit the accelerator, I get to a stop light and turn off my truck like for 20 seconds and then turn it back on, BAM!!!..... noise is gone,

Really........

Chirp is back.... Have belts waiting to be replaced but the crankshaft pulley is not looking "balanced".... I really dont want to spend $200 on a replacement. Will see what happens after I replace the belts.

Since you just had belts replaced, I'd say it's just a matter of getting them to the right degree of tightness/looseness. I remember when I worked on my QX4 I had to work quite a bit to get the belts "just right" so they wouldn't squeek.

My buddy's crank pully was chipped a little, so its definately not "balanced" but runs fine. Unless it's significant I wouldn't say that's the issue with your "chirp."
