Hell Yeah! I just finished installing the ACT street disk and HD pressure plate with my dad in my 1990 240sx HB. Man what a great upgrade, thanks to all of you guys for talking about it so much I did the install. Well the realease bearing was all jacked up, and that the reason for the install but im still in shock on how well the car is perforiming now. It should be one of the first things to do. never thought 140 horses could chirp in third so easy. Thanks a lot and that my sharing for today!

You did give the clutch 500miles of gentle driving so it could properly seat/breakin right?

its not in directions, its a well known fact by EVERYONE that when u do a major mod or replace something important, it has to settle in first, start saving now for a new clutch

its true though, you should let it settle in before chirping gears, etc.

ACT's I seem to remember from some DSM shopping I was doing, are highly sensitive to proper break-in, I'd take it easy as you don't want to risk grenading a spring through your hood

A friend (honda guy) doesn't think a clutch needs time to break it either. I keep telling him its best for the clutch to be driven easy for the first 500 miles, but NOOOOO. i can't wait till he needs a new clutch in a few thousand miles (if he ever gets his POS crx running. heheh)

now what you did prolly will not be too bad for the clutch, and I can understand why you went out and tested it out nothing wrong with that but take it easy for the next while with that thing and work it in nice like.

Sounds like you wernt too hard on it so far but just drive like a grandma for a few hundred miles, it will be worth it in the long run. Kinda like new brakes, you gotta let them break in you dont go balls out on a twisty downhill after you change them.

My ACT clutch is only 1 week old and I've done a little here and there but not anything extreme like burnouts that span multiple gears or power shifting... just quick shifting. Being that I mostly drive it like grandma and a mostly stock 240SX I feel it'll be ok. Redline launches must be kept to a minimum.... 500 miles pass before you know it anyways.

Yeah i have not done anything drastic, the thing was after me and my dad installed the clutch we turned on the car to move it out the way so we could clean up the floor, the thing was i thought since it was a street clutch it would be kind of the same feel. Boy was i wrong. i actually peeled out a little when i went to take off by accident( i said to myself i gotta check this out). So i went and took a test spin no redlining just quickshifts nothing major, but i did hear a chirp in third, very happy with that! so yeah i work 45 miles away from my house so the 200-300miles will be out of the way pretty quick. I got the Clutch from MVP and they had it the cheapest and had very good people working there i had no problem what so ever. 282 bucks plus shipping.

LMAO at some of these replies...

FYI, this is from the ACT website:

"For organic street discs “00 and SS” we recommend breaking in the clutch for 200-300 miles with mild engagement such as stop and go city driving prior to racing or spirited driving. ACT race discs usually only require a few hard slips to lap in the surfaces prior to normal driving or racing. Do not overheat the clutch during the break in period."

Adel - don't sweat it, you'd have to work really hard to tear up your new clutch with these little pea-shooter engines we run. At worst you'll loose a few thousand miles of use from not breaking it in. One question though, did you have the flywheel resurfaced? I noticed none of the replies here mentioned this, but a warped, cracked, or just glazed flywheel can cost you a lot more than improper break-in.

Earl,

the flywheel was in good condition when we changed then clutch, actually the clutch was in good condition the only thing that went bad was the realease bearing which was making a hell of a lot of noise.

The only reason "I think that i am chirping in first through third gear is because of my open differential. I just pressed new bearings on to my posi that i bought off ebay, so soon more traction!

On 240sx with HICAS, What is the posi rear end called? Is this Posi any good? Yes this is the one i got.

I have 225s in the rear, and I could chirp 3rd on my stock KA. But with the bald 205s I used to have, I could spin 2nd really hard.. Torque is a lovely thing :)

I don't have VLSD... So i'm chirping 3rd with an open dif and 225s. I've got a ACT street disk.

I'm talking about my 95, not my 91. My 91 has VLSD but something is wrong with the motor, it's not pushing nearly as much power as it should be.

Pro: better traction, looks better, better handling

Con: clearance issues, more weight

As you can see there aren't too many disadvantages, but the weight IS one, probably a pound or two but more weight is more weight. 225s fit on my S14, but they ARE wider, if you go much larger it might rub the fender, especailly if it's lowered. Just check the clearence before you buy some tires you can use. You have 15in rims so you're in a totally different ballpark. Just gotta research what'll fit a bit. I think I could have fit 245s, which pisses me off. But I guess i'll have to wait till i mess these up.

Yup... Bigger diameter will make it read slower, smaller will make it faster. You can often however, get wider tires without them being much taller.

Ex. 225/45R/16 my new size, 205/55/16 old..

Do you know how tire sizing works?

225 is the width, 45 is the height, but it's 45% of the width.

So the height on 225/45 would be 101mmHeight for 205/55 would be 112.75

So my new tires are smaller making it read faster. If I would have gotten 225/50 it would be 112.5 almost the same, but they don't make EVERY combonation espectilly in brands that are good. So you just have to research it.
