chipping paint on alloy wheels

So the paint on the stock aluminum rims of my '01 Qx4 is chipping pretty badly. Does anyone have advice/ experience on refinishing rims? They definitely need to be blasted, and taken down to clean, bare metal. After that, I'm wondering if it'd be better to prime with an aluminum etching primer and then paint with wheel paint, or just polish them and clearcoat. I appreciate any other suggestions or advice on how to go about doing this.thanks,-Nick
