My 2003 Altima wasn't too bad except for the front bumper... it was in rough shape when I traded it in. It's not just Nissan though. Mazda's have the same chipping issue. You should see my fiancee's 2002 Mazda Protege... The hood, front fenders and front bumper look like the surface of the moon! Every stone chip instantly starts to rust as well.
I know we all hate to get stone chips, but in reality it's a fact of life. Take some advice:
- Wash and wax your vehicle regularly- Look for chips and keep the paint pen handy to touch them up before rust occurs.- Use protective films or a hood deflector to protect the vulnerable hood area.
And for those who own black/ebony colors: It's the most difficult color to keep clean on any car. It shows every single flaw, spot, water mark, swirl etc. whereas lighter colors don't show as much. Good luck!
