Almost every car model since about 2000 uses chip embedded keys. I would imagine by now all cars (except maybe very limited production cars) probably do.

ok.....cuz i know before when they first started doing it, you could really tell if it was chipped. i guess they're doing a better job of hiding these days.

i appreciate the help

The newer Xterras are definitely chipped. There are a couple of options so far as ordering keys. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with the local dealer, some try to get 90 bucks for the key and then another 35 to 40 for the cutting and programming.

When I bought mine, I asked and received 3 master keys and 2 valet keys (red) for my 05 at no additional charge.

There are a couple of Nissan dealers that sponsor here on the forums who will cut pretty good pricing, or give me an email at [email protected] and I can help you out through the local dealership here.

Regardless of what you pay for the key, anyone can cut it for you. The only snag is the programming time. Many dealerships that I have seen will charge a half hour labor. The one that I deal with only charges for a 1/4 hour.

Hope that helps.Donald
