Well first of all let me say hi since this is my first post in the CA forum. This is my second 240 but my first with a CA.Now on to my question,I got the car with a chipped ecu and a safc 2 already installed.Well I changed the tune the car had before and now I am wondering about the setup on the safc.I have not run the car with the new tune because I am wondering if I should reset the safc and then go through the initial setup again to set it up to the upgraded maf and injectors and then get the safc dyno tuned to work out the fuel curve. On the tune that I did I just updated the maf and the injectors,I did not mess with the fuel or ign map.So do I just do the same for the safc then get it tuned later? Will this work for awhile without messing up the engine until I get the tune done?

Yeah, you will want to go and change the safc settings to accomodate for the changes you just made. Changing the tune itself is probably going to be necessary, as the safc is a bit ghey like that, but you probably wont have to change it very much. For starters I would change the settings for the maf and injectors and see how she runs. You might find itll run like crap and some tuning by ear will be necessary to get it street worthy. Then again, it might run fine. Just dont go getting on it until you think its running well enough.

Ok so I reset the safc and input what I thought to be right but the car would not start. So I started thinking that it was my tune so I put the old chip back in and it started but it ran like crap,it would not idle above 500 rpm and if I gave it just a little gas and then let go of it it would stall. So I guess maybe the safc had been set to a specific tune for that rom.If somebody would be willing to look over these files and settings for me and see if there is something I can do just so I can get it to the tune shop(about 45 min away)and get it properly tuned that would be great. It is of course a CA18DET with a z32 maf and 450cc injectors. The ecu is MEC-D017 p/n 23710 36F15.I used the stock rom for that ecu and just adjusted for the maf and injectors using live edit for my tune. For the settings on the safc I set the sensor for hot wire then "in 2 out 6",set it for four cylinder and ** for the throttle signal and that was it.

Here is the rom file for the tune that I did

http://www.mediafire.com/?9j05jbfsms1

And here is the original that was in the ecu

http://www.mediafire.com/?bzemgnrq19j

And if your wondering why I even messed with the ecu if it was running before,it's because when I got around 5500 rpm it felt like it hit a rev limiter or something it would not go any higher. So I assumed it may have something to do with the tune, and when I compared the stock rom file for the ecu it was totally different from the rom that was in the ecu when I got the car so thats why I did it.

Update: I figured out what I did wrong on the safc side.I had the sensor number wrong.I had it set up for z32 in and sr20det s14 out.I have now corrected that and I have the original rom working well again, but my tune still will not even crank the car,I am going to go get it tuned this week but I am still wondering where I went wrong with my tune.I don't know if it is the tune its self or if I burnt it wrong. If somebody is still willing to look at my tune and tell me if I did anything wrong that would be great.

why not setup up the rom file for your injectors and maf. Then use the afc for very minor fuel adjustment. I feel much better that i setup the tune on my ecu to actually be setup for the maf im running and not being fooled by some air/fuel controller.

Yea that's what I did but I still had to do the initial setup on the safc for the car to run right,I just set the maf signal as z32 in and z32 out since the ecu is set up to recognize the maf as z32,but I can't get my tune to work in the car.I don't know if I burnt the chip wrong or if it's my tune that is the problem.I used the stock rom for my ecu and used live edit to correct the maf and injectors and that was it,but my car won't start with it in.It cranks but it will not start.Once I can get my tune to work I plan on taking it to the tune shop and putting it on the dyno for fine tuning the fuel on the afc. Thanks for the advice though.

It's a common mistake to only burn the image to the ROM once. Did you burn it enough times to fill the ROM?

How would I do that?I have tried to just press the program button multiple times but it doesn't seem to be adding any extra info to the chip,I still get all FF from about the middle of the buffer page all the way to the last row.I have tried to look it up but I must be wording it wrong. The chip is a 28C256 EEPROM using a willem enhanced programmer.

Got it figured out.The car is now running with my tune, all I need to do is get a timing light on it and get the safc tuned. Thanks for the help
