My gf sorta rear-ended someone who caused an accident 1 second in front of her, so she had no way of avoiding it. She wasn't at fault according to the police officer that saw the accident happen. Here are the damages, what do you guys think it will cost? I just got the police report today, and will probably get estimates soon. I'm guessing at least $3000?

Here's all that's damaged that I can see:
-hood
-bumper, bumper supports
-fender, fender "flare?"
-possibly radiator support
-cracked turn signal
-passenger headlight non-operable now

All I gotta say is I hope they don't try to salvage that hood.

Your allowed OEM parts and not aftermarket, a 2000 QX4 is worth a bit more than my 97 QX4 but maybe $6000. From what I see and what I do not see this may be a write off. It depends on where you live. Do a check in your area for resale of your car, get at least 3 quotes average them, that is about what your car is worth, talk to your insurance agent and tell them only OEM parts.

My rear end was hit by a girl who gave me a hard time with her papers, her father was willing to pay $100 but the collision shop estimated $900 so I talked to my insurer who said get it fixed because you were rear ended they are 100% liable. It was fixed to the tune of $2500, since my insurance saw the truck and insisted the rear be painted, new bumper cover but no real damage to sheet metal.

That's why I am estimating $6000 for you, the things I can not see may well put the bill higher.

If the car is written off make the insurance coy an offer to buy it back and then take it to other collision places and say how much, no insurance, private...the bill will drop 60-70%

oh man thats a good hit. she really romped it good! Had she been driving the integra in the background, things would have been a lot worse!!

I hit a freeway sign once going pretty fast and my headlight was just as crooked as yours. I used a crowbar to straighten everything out now look at my pics. It's straight unless you look directly at it up close and in person. Yours could be fixed "ghetto" for under $200 (price of used hood only) and some elbow grease. But to answer your question, a real professional fix gonna be around $4 to $5k!!! Amateur shop fix $2-3k

I have a loan on out this thing, so a crowbar and elbow grease is out of the question whether I prefer it or not.
I got two estimates today, one by Nissan, which quoted me $3500. The other place quoted me $3200. Neither places looked under the hood for more damages because I drove the car there and if the hood wouldn't close after they inspected it, i'd be walking 10 miles home. But I'm waiting on the other people's insurance to send someone out and give me an estimate. Thing is, now they're saying there's a 4th vehicle involved, and there were only 3 to begin with, even on police report, only 3 vehicles involved. So we'll see how the rides out.

Its gonna be tough to say its not her fault. anytime you rear end someone, its usually your fault. And im surprised the cop said anything about fault... around here, police are very careful not to say anything about fault (they leave it up to the insurance)

Well, the way it happened, I guess it wasn't her fault it happened. The person in front of her changed lanes so she moved up, then that person decided to come back into the original lane without looking. On his way back in the lane change, he hit the car in front of him and in turn my gf hit him because she was already moved up because she didnt expect that guy to come back into the lane. There was a lot of traffic at that time, so everyone was inching their way up/down the road anyway. On the police report, he was cited for inattentive driving, and the other person was cited for no insurance and expired registration. Nothing was said about my gf other than she was sent to the hospital. We'll have to see how well my insurance does their work. And yes I do agree, 99.999% of the time when you rear-end someone, you're at fault..but like I said, I'll let my insurance do the work, that's what I pay them for.

oh if they got a ticket like that then you're probably in great shape!

Hope your girlfriend is OK. It's a good thing she was in a Qx4 and not a small car.

It'll be two weeks this coming up Tuesday since the accident and having two people working sharing one car isn't working out. how long does it take the insurance before I get my truck repaired?
