GO TO DAUNT GO TO DAUNT. I live in the Chicago North suburbs and I am eventually going to afterdark. Click on his webpage to get prices. As far as saying you want STOCK, no you don't. What you really want is an SR on a budget. And daunt's modifications will give you alot more improvement for a little bit more cash. I know you probably don't want to be sucked into the "As long as your..." but just go with his modifications his prices are low.

EDIT: Oh yea and auto > manual is ~ 700-800 labor included. Dauntless will charge you 400 labor (very reasonable!) and ask that you find the parts either your self, or he can find em for about 300-400. Remember the transmission is already part of the SR. I would be willing to pay up around a thousand for an auto > manual so this is very reasonable. On the supraforums when people ask about a conversion, the rule of thumb is to sell your auto and buy a manual. Glad you didn't get a supra arent you? :D

Hey, I've been bumming around the board for a while and have dont countless hours of research. I don't even own a 240 yet, but looking to get one soon and do a swap in like May.

I would honestly say to go with AfterDark Tuning without a doubt. They do the best work and have the best pricing for QUALITY jdm stuff. Their motors also have less than 35k miles on them (i believe), thats the lowest around. Plus they are the closest around here.

The swap isn't real popular with the shops around here. Everybody in my town is doped up on civics.

Anyway, yeah, go with afterdark. I am going to also. An added bonus is that Daunttless is the nicest guy you will ever talk to online. He is quick to reply to his e-mails and will answer any questions you have. Undoubtedly the best customer service for any JDM retailer!

I live in the chicagoland area. Actually Hanover Park, By bloomingdale, carol stream, and Schaumburg if you want to get technical. I am goin to dauntless. It will be like 3 hour drive. Maybe 3.5 if you do speed limit, but who does that. Ride home will be fun.

Yea you can always look towards the ride home as a great part of the trip. If you go to pick up a sports car, half of the ride will probably be lame, but the rest is getting familiar with your new car, I am starting to cry now... :sad

Anyways yea Daunttless is very very responsive when it comes to questions and I feel bad for him that he does so. Because when you get 500 emails every day asking the same old questions you get pissed off, but he seems to hold up :D . Anywho yea with me, I say go with how many shops can you actually talk to about problems/complications on FORUMS!

Daunt also has great tech support, more knowledge of the sr than anyone ive ever talked to, and offers a warranty. What more could you ask for in life?

Just be aware (I am not posting this as some SR propoganda because I am going KA-T or anything) that SRs are illegal in your 240SX for the street. If it is for the track go for it, but if you are going for street legality you won't be satisfied. On a fair note, turbo KAs are illegal as well, besides the Greddy kit that has been promised to us for some time. But even if you don't care about the illegality, which most people don't because it is not that often when a cop can spot the difference between a KA and an SR and even the fact that he would ask you to pop your hood is a bit out of the question. But as of Jan.1 2004 all OBDII cars in IL will have to pass the OBDII test or else they will fail emissions completely, no second shot with the IM240 tests. But that also depends on where you live and if they have emissions or not. Anywho, good luck. :peace

If you are doing swap into a S13, you don't have to worry about OBDII.

There is a thread all about SR legality. Do a search if anyone wants more info.

Hey matt, do you even have a 240? I don't myself, but trying real hard to get one. Here in IL, there are a bunch of 240s, but no one wants to sell theirs. I guess thats how good these cars are.

Sidenote: I saw a '97~'98 Green S14 with N1 Duals driving down the road the other day. Its really rare to see any S14s around here, especially modified ones. :pface

Yea I don't own one but am looking hard. It ticks me off how sellers who have been trying to get rid of them for a long time are still far above blue book. And they are doing this with the 0% apr out there, those morons. Yea I saw one in highwood, a black S14A (97 - 98).

Maybe it was black. It was going fast so I couldnt really tell. :pface

I hear ya tho on the used cars. I though cars were supposed to go down in price because of the 0%.

I guess our economy is starting to get better, darn. :pface

Mmalatesta: Sorry, there is no shop in Chicago that will install an SR for anyone- I don't see this changing any time soon either. There is very little demand for SR's because of the price and complexity of the swap. One time a honda shop tackled an SR swap they didn't know how to finish it- and sweared never to do it again. In my opinion your '93 auto w/83k miles is not a very good candidate for a swap, for many reasons. But it's all about what you want and how much money you're willing to blow on your car, so don't listen to me. :)

Well, I wish all you guys luck finding 240's and installing SR's. Maybe we'll meet at a Chicago meet this year.Just a word of advice to you guys: I know this whole "Afterdark" shop is all the talk/hype on this board- I wish the guy luck! But you might want to hold off on your excitement until he actually has opened up and had a couple customers. Just be careful out there............and have fun! :p

Dayum this is an old thread. As old as all the nut-swinging over Afterdark that hadn't even opened up yet - and look what happened to that horror story of a "shop".I told you so!

I don't think anyone would recommend APG in Bensenville to handle an SR swap. Now almost all the shops will try and do them- results will vary.

I'm near Downers (bolingbrook). I've got someone for you. I could give you some recomendations of where not to go (from my own experience). If you want to talk email me and I can give you the details. Otherwise, I work at Circuit City over on Highland and Butterfield. I'm there five days a week, stop by. I don't want to put down anyone's work on the forum. And by the way, Boardman, don't speak without being educated. I know first hand that there are over half a dozen in the Chicago area that will install professionally.

I know who you are- you probably know who I am. You say there's some good shops- and some you would stay away from- I say all shops will do them- and results would vary. Same point.this was hardly necessary --> " don't speak without being educated " Save the drama, ok. :)Some ricer that took it personally would drive over to circuit city and key your car or some ****- be careful what info you share and who you make enemies with.

First off let me say that I didn't realize I was that well known. I wasn't trying to start any drama, but you can't say there aren't any shops in Chicagoland that do SR swaps when there really are. I was just offering some help from personal experience. There are lots of shops. I'll just say from my personal experience that when shops are brought up I cringe, if you catch my drift. Anyways my man, not trying to stir up drama, just helping out. Oh, and by the way, if my car does get keyed, I'll know who to turn to.

Just blame yourself (if the cars gets vandalized/stolen) for listing that a 240sx w/SR20DET is parked at Circuit City 5 days a week in/near Oakbrook Illinois at Butterfield and Highland on the south side of Butterfield. You work evenings right?

I find it rather threatening that you keep insinuating that my car is going to be vandalized. I also find it interesting that you know me and I don't know you. Speak up my man, where would I know you from? Also, I drive my daily to work. There are two others that I work with that also drive S13's and I don't think they would appreciate getting their cars vandalized.

Hey relax everyone nobody is vandalizing any cars, whats the point. We all put a lot of time and work into our cars and that is why we all come to the org. Relax, make up. For all you know you guys could probably become friends since you guys live close to each other.

This is what I'm saying. I was just trying to help someone on the boards. I like getting to meet the 240 guys in my area. It's always good to have resources and then Boardman went off the deep end. My comment may have been a bit harsh and if you took it offensively I'm sorry. I just don't like when you say there are no shops in the area that will do a swap when in reality there are plenty, and there are actually a few that I can gaurentee will do a great job. So just cut out all of the nonsense, it's kind of frustrating.

Apology accepted- try and keep the smartass remarks to yourself- you were out of line.

And you still haven't gotten it......You didn't like that I said "there are no shops in the area that will do a swap".........Read the dates of this thread and it's replies please. This thread and my reply were dead even before you joined this forum. Alot has changed in Chicago in the last 2 years- why do you think all the chicago guys that replied back then were willing to have their swap done by AfterDark who was in the middle of Iowa cornfields!!
