Gun violence > % Gun (most recent) by state. Of the Top 5 states only one, Louisiana is a southern state, and in the Top 10 Mississippi is the only other Southern state. Granted, Louisiana has the top spot, but I'd love to see some crime stats and see if there's any relationship to the post-Katrina infrastructure. But what's really odd, Illinois with it's over the top gun control is number 2 on the list, and Vermont with its No Permit Required concealed carry is number 50.telcoman wrote:You mean like Atlanta?biggie wrote:If he brings any Chicago kids to parade around in front of cameras to exploit they may be smart enough to run away to the south to be safe.

the says goes true: "the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun."Bubba1 wrote:I read recently that the increase in Chicago's gun violence deaths seemed to coincide with when the city laid off 1,500 police officers. Evidently that was done in order to balance their budget.
Thoughts?
Having been to both Atlanta and Chicago many times, I would strongly prefer to live in Atlanta in a heartbeat! And me with my brown skin too!AZhitman wrote:BTW, I've spent time in most of the cities on that list. Chicago was the ONLY one where I felt unsafe (and disgusted). I've been in ATL, downtown, at night. People are friendly and cool - Southern hospitality, even in the so-called "rough" neighborhoods.

Savannah, GA has to be my #1, though.
Pretty much sums it up (at least for me), especially seeing as I used to live there. Plenty of places I knew to avoid at certain times but that I could visit no matter what time it was depending on my company. I'd never go to Chinatown late at night but had a couple of friends that I'd routinely go there with and get food with, even when the restaurants were closed. Bigger issue in Chicago that I knew of when I was there was Polish organized crime (controlled by Russian Outfit guys). Fact or rumour...no idea, just heard more than a few times from multiple, unrelated sources.Bubba1 wrote:But I wouldn't be so quick to condemn Chicago. Heck, I could go for a Gibson's steak right about now. I do agree parts of the city is bad, you can say that about pretty much every major city.
