I've been running nothing but 93 octane Chevron with Techron since August (the life of my RB25DET) and I've had a problem around 5ooo rpm. Tonight my friend offered to pay me in gas for driving around all day and insisted that I stop at a Shell station nearby because my tank was almost empty. I put 3 dollars worth in and got back on the road. The results were instantaneous. The car once bucked and shuddered approaching anything slightly over 5000 rpm but now it begs for more throttle all the way till 7000. Has anyone else experimented with different gas stations? I hear that Quick Trip has decent fuel. I guess that the next step would be to try a bit of race fuel.

we dont have chevron round here, and when i do put it in it does kinda suck.i run shell or bp, i will run citgo from time to time.it may have been that your injectors were dirty and the shell gas has more detergents in it.i would run 1/2 a can of seafoam thru the engine to see it that helps even more.

Maybe you are buying from a Chevron station that has leaky tanks. You might be getting water into your tank.

But with respect to Chevron's gas or Shell's gas being better, there is no difference (they all sell gas to each other). The additive package is different, but it seems unlikely that there would be a difference that large.

Thanks [all] for the input and I'll try the injector cleaner
